March 27, 1928 – July 1, 2021

With great love and sadness, we share the passing of Oldrich Baleja (OB) at the Poseidon Care Centre on July 1, 2021, at the age of 93.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Diane; children, Allen (Hazel), Kathleen (Gerald) and Marjorie; stepson Christopher (Cheryle), and his foster son "Little" George. Oldrich had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Stan (Christa); father-in-law Ralph Hardy; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Dianne) and Dale (Christine); along with many good friends and extended family.
Oldrich was a good man. He was loving and kind with a terrific sense of humour. No one will forget his jeep rides, tequila belt or trips to the birdhouse.
The last three and a half years have been difficult, but to the family and friends who took the time to visit him for "happy hour" or an outdoor visit at Poseidon, we want to thank you. Thank you also to the staff on the fifth floor for your compassionate care.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.
Oldrich was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

  • My favorite childhood memories take place at Grandpa OB's cabin on the lake playing with my sister and cousins. The cabin always felt like a magical place when we went, every year or two growing up from Victoria to Winnipeg. I fondly remember picking smarties, kit kats, and other candies out of OB's garden that he planted for us every year as little children. One year we went in the winter for Christmas, and OB spent hours building us kids an igloo to play in equipped with a space heater to keep warm. I will never forget these moments. - Posted by: Leigh Baleja (Granddaughter) on: Jul 06, 2021

  • Al, I want to express my condolences for the loss of your Dad. May your memories help you walk thru this difficult time. My memory of working for you Dad in the early 1970s are all good ones. My initiation to Pembina Construction was a trip to your Dad and Ken s favourite “ watering hole”. Your Dad was always in favour of a time to relax with a cold one or two. Thinking of you during this difficult time. Abe Penner - Posted by: Abe Penner (Former Pembina Construction employee) on: Jul 04, 2021

  • He built my parents concrete pool in Tuxedo on Laidlaw Blvd in 1973. It was an amazing pool. Never a problem. He did a great job! We had decades of fun. Then in 2003 he built a pool for my family in Linden Woods and he looked so young for a man in his 70s. It was nice to hook up with him again as I originally met him when I was 11 years old. He was a fair and funny man. He had a life well lived for sure. God Bless. MM - Posted by: Michael Mark (friend) on: Jul 04, 2021

  • OB, so many wonderful memories. Brent’s “surprise” birthday parties at the lake, the Eloisa and Andales in PV, France, Spain, and many fun times here in Winnipeg. You are a legend, Mr B, and will be greatly missed! Love you! Betty and Brent - Posted by: Brent and Betty (Friends) on: Jul 03, 2021
