DOUGLAS ROBERT MAHER

I am really saddened to say that on June 30, 2021 I lost my soulmate, high school sweetheart and my best friend, Doug to
cancer, he was 71.
He is survived by his wife Heather (nee Parkinson); sons, Scott and Adam; grandsons, Cayden and Cole. He is also survived by his sister Shirley and brother Ed (Donna); sister-in-law Flora; brothers-in-law, Don Ramsey, Al Fedoriak and David Parkinson and many
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father
Sterling; mother Gladys; brother Bill; sisters, Louise and Margaret and his parents-in-law, Andy and Peggy Parkinson.
Doug was a proud member of the Winnipeg Fire Department, retiring as a Captain. He was a quiet man, enjoying the Toronto Blue Jays and doing jig-saw puzzles.
Thank you so much to CancerCare and the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for the great care he received.
Cremation has taken place and no service will take place at this time.

Condolences may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk
in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Auntie Heather, Scott and Adam, Your feeling of loss is shared. As you know, I lost my Mom (Doug's sister) only a few weeks before his passing. Before her dementia took over, my Mom shared lovely stories of them all growing up in a house filled with love, music and quiet times. The only comfort I can offer is what I tell my own self and that is that the Maher family is slowly reuniting in a place where none of them are experiencing any pain or torment. My heart goes out to you all - because I truly know your feeling of immense loss. - Posted by: Liane Karba (Niece) on: Aug 12, 2021

  • Heather and family, Very sorry to hear about Doug’s passing. He was always very kind to me when I would come for a cup of tea. He was a kind man and this is how I will remember him. Take care. Tammy - Posted by: Tammy Senkow (Friend) on: Jul 10, 2021

  • We are very sorry to learn of Doug's passing. He was a good and genuinely friendly person who might have been quiet but had a good sense of humour. For example I asked him to pick up a bike from Winnipeg and he said some people take their dogs for a walk, I take my truck for a drive. You could count on him. - Posted by: Carol and McLeod Fiddler (Friend) on: Jul 03, 2021
