MARY BERNADETTE MOUSSEAU
1942 - 2021
She is survived by her children, Laura Mousseau (Thomas Small), her grandchildren, Mackenna and Ericka, and her son Robert "Bobby" Mousseau; her brother Joey Wirvin (Frances) in Ottawa, sister Barb Droghini (Marino) in Vancouver, brother Dennis Wirvin (Carol) in Winnipeg, Aunt Ollie who is the last surviving Aunt of the Wirvin's at 99 years old, her lifelong best friend Bernie Minkus (Vancouver), Xander Bryson along with many nieces and nephews, and sisters and brothers in-law throughout Canada and the USA. Mom was predeceased by her husband Robert Mousseau (1999); her loving parents, Joseph (1989) and Suzanne (1995) Wirvin; her brother Frank Wirvin (2012), and brother Brian Wirvin (2011).
Mom was born in Winnipeg on December 8, 1942 and while she moved with the family to Edmonton, Regina and Halifax, her home was always Winnipeg. She loved photography, curling, music, pet sitting, her cat Maggie but once her grandchildren were born she became "Grandma Bernie" and a new role was born. Her devotion to them was immeasurable! A fixture in their daily lives, she never wanted to miss any event and always gave them her full attention showering them with love. She had patience of a saint and would spend hours holding them until they drifted off to sleep, playing crafts, giving them foot baths, rolling down the hills near her trailer, making them snack trays and engaging in whatever activity they wanted to do. It was a precious relationship and one that will be missed terribly.
Her quick wit and hilarious sense of humour stayed with her even as her health had failed. She could make any room laugh, the life of the party (St. Patrick's Day being one of her favourite celebrations) and brought so much love and peace to those around her that she maintained quite a fan base as a result.
She would be available at the drop of a hat to help anyone who needed her, whether it be neighbors, family, friends and always took care of others. She was selfless, loving, kind and loved her family and extended family dearly.
We want to thank the staff at Poseidon Care Center where she lived her last few years for the kindness they showed to Mom along with the staff at St. Boniface Hospital 5th floor for the period of time she was there. She is at peace now.
In accordance with Covid guidelines, a private viewing will be held at Desjardins Funeral Home and an invite only interment will take place at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any animal rescue in her honour.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)
I was saddened to hear of the passing of my old pal Bernie. She was a very kind and gentle soul and certainly enjoyed my dogs and loved them as her own. She spoke lovingly of her children, and her mom was often in her thoughts. Good memories will always be held. - Posted by: Jennine Veenstra (Friend) on: Jul 13, 2021
Very sorry to hear of Bernie’s passing, but happy to know she has found peace. Luckily I was able to spend some time with her at Poseidon before the pandemic hit and am now very relieved that we had a re-connection while it was still possible. Rest In Peace Bernadette. See you on the other side. ❤️❤️ - Posted by: Glenn MacRae (Friend) on: Jul 10, 2021
Have known Bernie from our time in Halifax in the 1980’s and remained in touch over the years. She was a kind and caring woman who thought the world of her children and grandchildren. A good friend to us and to every cat we ever owned. The cats loved her as much as she loved them. I know she will be missed by her family. She was a good-hearted woman and we will miss her. - Posted by: Bill Temereski (Friend) on: Jul 10, 2021
