GERTRUDE (GERTY) GODIN
(nee LUSSIER)
May 13, 1929 - June 28, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gertie in the early morning hours of June 28, 2021, at the age of 92.
She was born in St. Elizabeth, Manitoba and was raised on the family farm. She married Antonio (Tony) in 1951 and in 1961 they moved into the home where they were part of a community, raised their family, entertained friends and relatives until the end of their lives. Gertie was a devoted wife, mother, auntie and friend. She was much loved by everyone who knew her or tasted her cooking and baking!
Gertie is survived by her four children: sons, Ron (Nancy) and Alan, daughters, Monique and Michele; five grandchildren: Ryan, Nicole (Steve), Christian, Chantelle and Kyle; and three great-grandchildren: Janelle, Brooklyn and Lauren.
She is also survived by three of her siblings, Pete (Pat) Lussier, Edith Gagne and Jean Lowry. She was predeceased by her husband Tony; and four sisters, Rita Peloquin, Rolande Grieve, Denise Burnell and Marie-Paul Sanford.
As per her wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a small graveside service for close family and friends at the St. Boniface Cemetery on Archibald Street at a later date.
Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at the Health Sciences Centre - Emergency and Comfort Care. Mom was well cared for by professional staff who showed great compassion.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • There wasn’t a sweeter or kinder lady than Gertie. We all will remember that infectious laugh. After moving into the city over 50 years ago I became a close friend with Al. I was at their home as much as my own so Gertie truly was like a second mom to me. My wife Sherry and I cherish our visits with her and Al at her place and ours through her final years. Deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time. - Posted by: Gerry Lane (Friend) on: Jul 20, 2021

  • Aunt Gertie will always hold a very special place in my heart. I will fondly remember her gentle kindness, her shy giggle, her baking/recipes, her caring open heart and ready ear for listening/sharing. Mom and her were not only sisters, but best friends. Thursdays were for their hair appointments (no grey hair left behind), shared lunches, sweet treats and simple companionship. She truly was one of earth’s angels and will be missed. • Aunt Gerty was special to me. She was always welcoming to me, my brother Quincy, and my sister Shirley. She wanted to know how we were doing, she laughed at our jokes and she cared. I remember her warmth and compassionate kindness when she and I were together during my mother’s final days. I will remember her always. - Posted by: Dwayne Burnell (Nephew) on: Jul 14, 2021

  • Ron, Alan, Monique and Michele. Sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I have such fond memories of spending time with uncle Tony and Auntie Gert as well as “the city cousins”. Suzanne and Keith - Posted by: Suzanne Dowdall (Godin) (Cousin) on: Jul 11, 2021
