ELINOR ISABEL SKLAR
October 30, 1941 - June 29, 2021

It is with deep, heart-wrenching sadness that we share the passing of our wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, friend and colleague, Elinor Isabel Sklar, on June 29, 2021.
Elinor was predeceased by her parents Nettie (Jack) and Russell Nixon. Elinor was the matriarch and light of our family and will be dearly missed by her loving husband and partner of 62 years Dave Sklar; her sister Judy Nixon (Phil Noonan); her three children, Colleen Sklar (Kevin Wallace), David Sklar, and Jim Sklar; her brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Jan Sklar; nephews, Jerry Sklar (Heather) and Alan Sklar (Jenn); and great-niece and nephew, Misty and Trevor Sklar.
Granny's light and joy were her six granddaughters; Ammanda Fitzgerald, Breanna Sklar, Nettie Wallace, Hanna Sklar, Grace Wallace, and Katrina Sklar. Elinor nurtured, cared for and loved her children and granddaughters with all her heart.
Elinor leaves behind many, many friends that she made throughout her lifetime. She had friends from her school days, colleagues from work, neighbours who became like family, and many friends from her beloved winter community in Yuma, Arizona. Elinor cherished all of her friendships and will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
Elinor always kept busy learning new things and meeting new people. She kept up with trends and technology, participating in group chats with her grandkids, sharing photos and messages and keeping in touch with her many friends. Elinor loved to read, sew, golf and play cards. She also loved to volunteer reading to children in elementary schools as she believed in community and pitching in to lend a hand when needed.
Elinor also loved to travel to see and learn about new places. From the earliest days the family enjoyed summer camping road trips across Canada and the US, and later in life she enjoyed many adventures to Europe with friends. Elinor especially loved Big Whiteshell Lake and each year family and friends would gather there to camp, connect and refocus on what was truly important - spending quality time together. Being surrounded by family and friends, laughing and visiting was what she loved most - this was her happy place. Elinor had an open heart and a warm smile and connected across generations. She had a gift of finding the bright side - the best in everyone - and was sure to share it. She was a very special person and will be deeply missed by all of us.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice or just pitch in and do something to brighten someone's day.
A celebration of her beautiful life will be held later this summer.

It is not about remembering someone in death - but in life - that will keep her zest for life, spirit, endless love, strength and light alive. "Lots of love" - Granny
