MEMRYK,Marian. Surrounded by her family Marian Memryk passed peacefully on July 12 at the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home. Marian was born in Sandy Lake on August 27, 1926, to Gus and Lena Melcosky. She married Tony Memryk on September 28, 1947, and together they farmed in the Strathclair area for over 50 years. When they retired from farming, they built a new home and moved to Minnedosa. After Tony passed away in 2007, Marian stayed in Minnedosa for several years before moving back to Strathclair and finally to the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home in 2018.
Marian leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Larry (Wendy), Dennis (Donna) and John (Sharon), her grandchildren, Courtney (Brad), Scott (Olivia), Ricky (Lisa), Robby, Myles (Kylie), Melissa, her great-grandchildren, Charlee, Amelia, Abel, Cohen, Harper, Kyra and Brady, her brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Ellen Melcosky, their daughter Debbie and her children Nicole and Marcus (Sabrina) and son Stephan and his daughter Vivian and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Marian loved her family with all her heart and was a devoted and proud sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Marian loved to garden – she had a beautiful yard full of flowers and was always on the lookout for a new tree or shrub. She spent hours in her vegetable garden, growing every fruit and vegetable you could imagine. She worked hard but loved every minute of it and was always happy to share her "crop" with family and friends. Marian loved all animals, and her kind heart could never turn a stray cat or dog away. She fed them and made sure they had a warm place to sleep but her heart held a special place for Apples and Sam. Marian loved to have visitors - both expected and unexpected – and they were always welcomed with a warm smile and genuine joy. She loved to tell stories about her life –walking to school across the fields in the winter, chasing cows in the valley, working alongside Tony as they started their life together, raising her three boys – she had so many stories. Her warmth and caring personality endured her to all who met her. She was a wonderful cook - no one ever left her home without a full stomach. She made the best perogies and pyrizhky in dill cream sauce – to this day, there are none better! Marian and Tony were founding members of Sts Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Newdale and active members of Holy Ascension Ukrainian Catholic Church in Minnedosa. She was proud to be one of the Strathclair "Golden Girls" – a group of four ladies who went on day trips around the area. Their friendship meant so much to Marian. A graveside service was held on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the Minnedosa Cemetery. The family thanks Fr. Jay Korban for officiating at the service. Pallbearers were Larry Memryk, Dennis Memryk, John Memryk, Robby Memryk, Myles Memryk and Scott Memryk. The family also thanks the nurses and staff of the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home for the loving care Marian received while she was a resident. If friends desire, donations can be made to a charity of their choice. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at
