Canada's First Hartloper

With profound sadness, the Hartlopers of Wildwood Park, Winnipeg, announce that after a long illness, Hendrik Alexander (Hank) Hartloper died July 9, 2021. He was 87.
Hank is succeeded by wife Willa; sons, Jurgen, Derek, Vincent and Justin; sister Ria, and 11 grandkids (one is even a girl).
Hank and Willa immigrated from Holland and have been proud all-season Winnipeggers since 1962. Hank was a devoted family man who loved kids, sports and having fun. Optimistic, kind and gentle, he was a genuine people person and natural salesman. Through consistent hard work and the occasional risk, he became a leader in trade show management and the local business community for about 40 years. Hank is now recognized on a commemorative plaque in the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
We thank the wonderful staffs at the Grace and Riverview Hospitals, as well as Winnipeg Home Care, for their exemplary professionalism and care, and for helping Hank beat Covid, while managing his comfort and pain throughout.
Following Hank's wishes, his body is donated to the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Medicine for teaching and research, and there will be no public memorial services. An informal reception is planned.
Heartfelt thanks for all the kind thoughts and generosity we have received. We would be honoured to hear of any charitable donations in Hank's name, social media responses or other feedback.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Hank and Willa have been our dear neighbours for over 25 years. After our second child was born, we fondly remember sitting on their deck having a much needed rest while Willa held the new baby and Hank played with our 2-year-old (who at first thought his name was Handkerchief!) Over the years we supported each other through taking in mail and watering plants when someone was away, and many backyard visits and the occasional beer on their deck. Hank was always quick to offer compliments to the ladies, noticing new hairstyles or clothing. Willa liked to tease him about his “flirting”! We will miss Hank greatly. Such a kind and caring neighbour. - Posted by: Karen and Kevin (Neighbours) on: Aug 06, 2021
