1932 - 2021

With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our mom on July 8, 2021 at Concordia Place Personal Care Home.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Margit (Ron), Ingrit (Tony), and Angelica; grandchildren, David, Daniel, Amanda, Adam, Ashley and Meghan; and great-grandchildren, Renata, Karek, Damon, Stefen and Carrie.
She was predeceased by her son Hubert in 1999, husband Karl in 2000 and son-in-law Michael in 2006.
Mom's focus in life was her family and she made a lot of sacrifices to give us a better life. We are blessed with many fond memories and treasure them all. She loved music and dancing, her toe tapping to the polkas and waltzes we played. An accomplished seamstress, our wardrobes as children were entirely handmade by her. As were each of our bridesmaids dresses, an unbelievable talent. With her quiet personality and wonderful sense of humour, she was the backbone of our family. She taught us so much, whether it was sewing, crocheting or how to use a chainsaw, we will miss her guiding hand and encouraging smile. The last four years of Mom's life was difficult dealing with dementia but her beautiful smile never wavered. Nor did her toe tapping.
In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. A private interment will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Our heartfelt condolences to you Margit, Ron, Ingrid and Angie as well as all the grandkids and great-grandkids. I remember when Hubert used to “run away from home” Tante Olga would just phone our Mom and ask “is he there yet?” And let him stay until he decided to go home again. I also remember her special table at the German Club where she patiently nursed her straight vodka with 7-Up on the side while we waitered and cleaned up every Friday and Saturday night. And yes she definitely toe tapped to all the polkas and waltzes. She was always kind and never had a bad word to say to anyone. May God give you all comfort knowing she is now at peace. • We will always remember Tante Olga's smile and laugh. We never saw her get angry at anyone. When mom needed help with sewing, Tante Opa was there. All of our aunts had great cooking and baking skills. I remember the pound of butter she always carved into a lamb for everyone's confirmation. Very talented. We will keep her good memories in our hearts. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Frieda and Mark van Solkema (Niece) on: Jul 22, 2021

  • Our hearts are sad in loss of Tante Olga, but happy as well, that she has found peace and is back in the arms of her love, Onkel Karl. She greeted us with a smile and hug each time we saw her.She had the kindest heart always. I never heard her speak an unkind word ever. She will be so missed by all of us. Our love and hugs to you all. Mona and Keith Mikkelson - Posted by: Monika Mikkelson (Neice) on: Jul 17, 2021
