JOHNSON: Versyl Edward Johnson, aged 86 years, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. The eldest of three boys, he was born to the late Andy and Lila Johnson on the family farm near Austin in 1934. Dad married his best friend Essie on November 3, 1962, and they enjoyed 58 wonderful years together. Their son Bradley (stillborn) was born in 1964, daughter Tara in 1965 and daughter Dana in 1967. Dad was always a gentleman quiet, kind, humble and polite. He was loyal, loving and devoted to his family. He could fix or build anything! Upon retiring from the Canadian Pacific Railway, mom and dad spent many happy summers at their cabin at Clear Lake and enjoyed winter vacations in the south. Dad was always a fit man, who could still walk for miles in his eighties! He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating and cross-country skiing. Dad's grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he was an integral part of their lives growing up. While he was not as vocal as his wife Essie, he loved watching his grandchildren play soccer, hockey and baseball and was a proud fan at all games. Growing up, the grandchildren were always over and will forever cherish and remember their grandparents' home as a place of love and laughter. Playing hide and seek with grandma and grandpa was a favourite game for years! Mom and Dad's cabin was a special place as well; the grandchildren had so much fun tubing, waterskiing and fishing on the lake. They will never forget the trips to the playground, ice-cream cones on the boardwalk, days at the beach and evenings in the cookshack. Dad is survived by his daughters Tara (Dave) Kitt and Dana (Ken) Templeton; grandchildren Brett and Jordan Kitt, Taylor (Moumen) Kamnaksh, and Madison Templeton; great-grandchildrenElla Kamnaksh and Jayce Kitt; brother Gordon Johnson, brother-in-law William Taylor and sister-in-law Judy Taylor. While we grieve dad's loss, our lifetime of beautiful memories are a comfort. We were truly blessed to have so many wonderful years together. The family would like to thank Fairview Personal Care Home 5th floor staff and the Brandon Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care staff for their kindness, care and compassion. A private family graveside service was held Wednesday, July 15, 2021 at Hillside Cemetery, Portage la Prairie. As Dad loved animals and always fed the birds and wild rabbits, donations in his memory may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200- 17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
