IAN GRANT TOWNSEND
Ian was predeceased by his parents, Anne and Bert Townsend; and his mother and father-in-law, Pauline and Victor Hart.
He leaves in absolute sorrow, his wife of 55 years, Win; daughter Tara-Lee (Darrell), son Scott (Lisa), grandson Tyler (Marisa); sister and brothers-in-law, Vicky-Lynn and Gerry Charbonneau, Douglas Hart; two nieces and three nephews.
Ian was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Norwood Grove area. Graduated from Nelson McIntyre Collegiate and Success Business College. He was employed with the C.N. Railway, followed by years with the Burlington Northern Railway.
Ian loved sports, especially baseball, playing for the Munroe Husky's, serious ball (many trophies) and "special" memories. In retirement, he played slow-pitch with the Flashback Stealers (competitive and house league). His lifetime favourite team was New York Yankees. Ian had an immense knowledge of baseball. He also was quite the bowler in younger days and enjoyed reading, working sudokus, playing volleyball and watching hockey.
Ian and Win were fortunate to spend 15 years in Arizona, where he played baseball for the VIP's team. We enjoyed many "Happy Hours" with our wonderful friends.
Ian was a quiet, caring, humble man, filled with dignity, honesty, confidence and vast wisdom. He was admired, loved and respected by all who knew him. He fought hard to give us one last really good Father's Day.
Our family would like to thank Dr. J. Butler, Dr. N. Fontigny and all the doctors and nurses of Palliative Care for their compassionate care. A special thank you to Anita, Maureen, Karen and Murray and Munroe Pharmacy for always being there for us.
If you wish, Ian always supported Craig Street Cats at 16-1421 St. James Street, Winnipeg, MB R3H 0Y9 (nonprofit).

A great friend and teammate. Probably the nicest guy I ever knew, and I know he’s smashing opposite field triples over the third baseman’s head..see ya on the diamond - Posted by: Bob MacDonald (Friend) on: Jul 26, 2021
Took me to first drive in, taught me how to drive, took me to father & son suppers when my dad worked, loaned me his car on my wedding night and was a true blessing to our family. Love and respect my brother. - Posted by: Doug Hart (Brother in law) on: Jul 24, 2021
