HORNER: Lillian (Lil) Harriet Horner (nee Ellerington). Lil passed away June 29, 2021 at Hamiota Health Centre at the age of 93. She was born September 5, 1927 at Miniota Hospital to parents Christopher and Ena Ellerington, the eldest of their two daughters. She was raised in the Glenlochar District attending Glenlochar and Miniota Schools. After Grade 12 Lil took a one-year teaching position at Castleavery School near Dropmore. Lil then attended Manitoba Normal School in Winnipeg, graduating in 1947. She went on to teach in Hamiota and Miniota. On October 18, 1950 Lil married Thomas Leslie (Les) Horner, eldest son of Joseph and Eva Horner, and made Miniota their home. They raised two daughters: Donna Christine born in 1953, and Irene Gail born in 1957. Les and Lil celebrated their 40th Anniversary in 1990. Les passed away in 1991 and Lil continued to live in Miniota. Mum was very proud of her family, home, yard and community. She enjoyed a healthy and active life – still curling and golfing at 90! Many a game of bridge, cribbage, and scrabble was played with family and good friends. Lil is lovingly remembered by her daughters Donna (Bob) Gardham and Irene (Ken) McFarlin; grandchildren Teri (Perry) Van De Kerckhove, Tristan Gardham, Bryce (Michelle) McFarlin, Chris (Mlee) McFarlin; great grandchildren Morgan, Eve, and Mallory Van De Kerckhove, Karlie, Bodie, and Carson McFarlin, and extended family and friends. A private family graveside service was held at the Miniota Cemetery on July 7, 2021 with Reverend Sally Carter officiating. For those who wish, donations may be made in Lil's memory to the Miniota Golf Club or the Miniota Curling Club.

"Those we love
don't go away,
They walk beside us
every day.
Unseen, unheard,
but always near,
Still loved, still missed,
and very dear."
Campbell Funeral Home, Hamiota, were in care
of the arrangements.
