DEREK PAUL HAIGHT
1946 – 2021

Derek Paul Haight passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 27 at the Foothills Hospital, after a month-long battle with a lung infection, and eventually succumbed to pneumonia.
Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on October 2, 1946, he was the eldest brother of a large, loving family. He was a mentor to many, and a treasured friend to many more. Derek was a gifted designer and received his degree in Architecture from the University of Manitoba in 1971. He leaves his footprint on the earth and will be remembered by the work he created.
Mourning his loss are his wife and best friend, Barb, daughters, Meghan (Ian Smistad) and Lindsay, and son Ian Harrad (Lou), brother David (Pam), sisters, Heather Worton (Dick), Debbie Norrie (John) and Shelley Watters (Lorne), as well as many nieces and nephews who will all miss him terribly.
Derek had four grandchildren, Parker and Angelina Harrad, and Mia and Jameson Smistad. Derek always welcomed you with open arms and an enveloping hug, with a wide grin of delight to bask in. A jolt of pure friendship and love. He drew us in and we came away better people, or maybe the people we are meant to be.
At Derek's request, there will be no memorial service. Celebrations of Derek's life will be held at a later date in Edmonton and Calgary when gatherings can be done safely.
Condolences sharing to Barb Losie, 4108-19th Street, NW, Calgary, AB T2L 2B6, blosie@interbaun.com, 403-860-9638 (cell).
