ISABELLA WHEATLEY
(nee MCKEAN)
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, Peter (Eva) in Ancaster, Ontario, Paul (Nancy) in Winnipeg; grandchildren, Laura (Jon), Kathryn (Zia), Christine (Rene), Matthew (Rachel), Peter (Ashleigh); William (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Sienna, Sophia, Zidane, Andrew, Ryan, Travis, Alice, Clara, Zach, Max and James. Isabella was predeceased by her husband John, brothers, Peter and Bud.
Mom grew up in Toronto and was the Ontario Female Athlete of the year in 1938 with the track nickname, The Pony Express. Isabella only missed competing in the Olympics because they were cancelled due to the Second World War. With the war raging on she met and married the love of her life, a Sailor (John), and shared 48 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 1992.
After spending many years watching her granddaughters grow into wonderful young women in Burlington and Ancaster, at 78 she moved west to join her Winnipeg family and spent her remaining years enjoying her grandson's sports, then seeing them have families of their own.
Isabella actively participated in lawn bowling at the Tuxedo Club. She loved playing cards, bingo, and while her eyesight allowed, continued to walk the Lindenwood Lakes for as long as she was able. Family can attest to how important it was to Mom to never miss acknowledging a birthday or anniversary for all her family.
A huge thank you to Victoria General Hospital and Tuxedo Villa nurses and staff for all their caring and compassion during these last few months.
In accordance with Mom's wishes cremation has taken place and a private remembrance will be held for family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army as per her wishes.
