EDWARD A. LEPIESZO
February 13, 1960 - August 2, 2021
Ed was born and raised in Winnipeg, moving to Ontario in the mid 1990s. As a lifetime photographer/film maker he specialized in image technologies which led to a long career at IMAX Corporation. Outside of work, Ed was an enthusiastic world traveller venturing to six of the seven continents and visiting too many countries to count. He was a lover of the great outdoors, hiking, snorkelling, mountain biking and off-roading, always with cameras and lenses in tow. He leaves us with a lifetime of beautiful photographs along with so many memories of clear nights and his telescopes pointed at the heavens.
Valerie, Rayanne, Haley and Ryan would like to thank the compassionate staff of Juravinski Hospital ward C3, extraordinary oncologist, Dr. Oren Levine, and our "ahead of every curve" PCP, Dr. Asif Ashraf.
We will miss Ed immensely, his dry humour, his intelligence, his severe spoiling of all household canines, and his unique view of the world. He was one of a kind and he left us too soon.

My brother Kenny and I knew Ed from Earl Grey School. Then I met Ed again years later a Shooters on 88 Sherbrook. He was a manager I was working as a custom printer back then. Ed was at our house a few times, my Dad build a telescope and Ed wanted to see it in use. It took my Dad about three years to complete it. My Dad ground the mirror and lenses for it on a machine he built. He machined most of the metal parts on his Lathe. - Posted by: Danny Lamontagne (Freind ) on: Jan 31, 2024

Although I retired from IMAX before Ed became ill and we have not spoken for some years, I am truly saddened by the news of his passing. My role at IMAX depended for almost 20 years on the technology that Ed so brilliantly provided us. He was a pleasure to work with - insightful, careful and, perhaps most important, a warm and open man who loved what he did and loved sharing his passion. He was one the really good guys, taken far, far too soon. My deepest condolences to his family. - Posted by: Hugh Murray (Colleague) on: Aug 12, 2021

To Ed's family, I was a colleague of Ed's on the film production side of things for many, many years. Ed was amazing to work with. His sense of humour, patience, integrity, competence and understanding of the overall production process were invaluable. He was an amazing, gentle, funny and very humble man. He was highly revered. Condolences to all of you for what is surely a monumental loss. My sincerest sympathies, Judy Carroll formerly of IMAX - Posted by: Judy Carroll (Co-worker) on: Aug 11, 2021

The departure of Ed has left a great void in the lives he touched. I am still struggling with the sad reality. I had the privilege to work with Ed for nearly 20 years on research and innovation countless film projects and blockbuster productions. He was brilliant at everything he did. Ed joined IMAX as an expert in film and imaging, and very quickly he became the “golden eye” of the organization. His expertise in image quality was highly respected by filmmakers, producers, scientists and creative artists. Ed was the architect and creator of world-leading high-performing computing systems for IMAX’s content re-mastering and film production facilities located in Toronto, Los Angeles and Shanghai. His innovations and achievements were crucial to the success of IMAX DMR strategy, which drove the rapid worldwide growth of IMAX during the past decade. Ed was a very kind person. He was devoted to his family, royal to his friends and extremely generous to everyone he connected with. He enjoyed his life and his passions of adventure, flying, astronomy, science and great cuisines of the world. His loving spirit let precious memories that I will forever remember and cherish. Ed will be deeply missed by all of us. - Posted by: Samuel Zhou (colleague) on: Aug 11, 2021

Perhaps our window of kinship was of just a few years, sharing our love for astronomy, details and observation tools. Travel, music, and photography we other gifts you shared with me. In particular your photographic skills astounded me, but behind it all was your overwhelming kindness and consideration. I so wanted to get together again…and so it goes, but I do know where to look for you. - Posted by: Jerry Wright (Friend) on: Aug 08, 2021

I still haven’t fully come to grips with the fact that you are gone my friend. You started out as a demanding but very fair client at IMAX, but quickly became someone I considered a good friend and could rely on for at times much needed sage advice. You never ceased to bring a smile to my face with that quintessential dry humour, and never dwelt on your own struggles, even when you had every right to. Rest in peace my friend and know that you are sorely missed. Val, Haley, and Rayanne, my deepest condolences to you and the family. Please let me know if there is anything you need. - Posted by: Bert Silva (Friend) on: Aug 07, 2021
