LORRAINE AGNES SCARR
(nee RONALD)
1931 - 2021

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Lorraine Agnes Scarr, age 89, on August 12, 2021, at Concordia Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg.
Lorraine is survived by her son, Jeffrey Scarr (Debbie), daughters, Patricia Scarr (Peter Dorrins), Sandra Scarr (Glenn Zirk), grandchildren Jonathan, Rachel, Rochelle, and Lauren, sisters-in-law, Barbara Picken, Diane Brown (Jack), nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Stanley Scarr in October 2018.
Lorraine was born in Brandon, Manitoba on October 14, 1931, the fourth of five children to parents Lillian and William Ronald. At age two, her family moved to Winnipeg and settled in the Elmwood area. As a teenager, Lorraine enjoyed roller skating, ice skating, movies, and trips to the beach. She was an exceptional speller and excellent typist with solid skills in stenography and Dictaphone.
Lorraine began her career as a secretary at International Harvester where she met her future husband, Stanley. They were married on December 4, 1954, and resided in East Kildonan. Lorraine stayed at home to raise her family and later returned to school and obtained her Medical Secretary Diploma. She enjoyed working for several medical specialists at the Medical Arts Clinic.
Lorraine was a member of the United Church her entire life, attending Gordon King Memorial, Morse Place United Church, John Black Memorial and Grey Street United. Her love of music found expression in the choir, and she was often selected for solo work. She loved singing and especially looked forward to the Christmas and Easter cantatas. She was Choir Director of Morse Place United Church Children's Choir for many years. She was a member of the United Church Women where she shared her love of baking and fellowship by working at teas, coffee parties and other functions. Lorraine served on the Worship Committee for Grey Street United Church, often visiting people in hospitals or in their homes. For a time, Lorraine also sang with the more secular Sweet Adeline's Choral Group at many local venues and events. Lorraine was very musical excelling at both piano, organ and as an accomplished soprano.
Lorraine had a wonderful sense of humour and quick wit, and was a formidable scrabble player which she enjoyed until the last months of her life. Lorraine's greatest love was for her family. She treasured her children and found great joy and fulfillment in watching her grandchildren grow and begin their lives. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
