JOANNA FRASER (MORRISON)
Date of Passing: Aug 18, 2021Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory
Joanna, the middle child of 13, was born in Boisdale, Nova Scotia. She affectionately referred to Cape Breton as home. She came to Winnipeg in 1966 on vacation and stayed when she met her loving husband Bert, whom she married in 1968. She, on more than one occasion, had expressed that she was looking very forward to reuniting with him. She said that he won't tell her what heaven looks like only that she needs to come see it for herself.
She possessed an amazing ability to see the positive in any given situation. Her faith focused on spirituality and the community.
She reminded us that if you do not have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. She taught us to live in the moment, express gratitude, and to be silly when you can.
She asked that we let all of those she cared about know that she loved them very much. "They know who they are "
Her last rites kismet moment: Paul, the Spiritual Care Provider at Riverview, is one of the children she cared for many years ago in daycare. Thank you for representing all the children that she spent her life impacting, nurturing, and allowing all her life's work and purpose to come full circle.
She acknowledged the need to mourn but asked that we all "pitter-patter" with that part, and once that was over, that we celebrate because no one is getting out alive.
Those of us mourning and working towards celebrating are her three children and our families; Paulette (Dave Smith), Paul (Julia Baster), Jacqueline (David Case); her four grandchildren and their partners, Anika Fraser, Serena Fraser, Andrea Case (Aaron Beckel), and Leah Case (Jonathan Polson); her great-grandson Huey Beckel; her sisters and brothers-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews; and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre, who listen and understand the needs of the family.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the St. Norbert Catholic Church, 80 St. Pierre, Street, Winnipeg, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Vaccination and masks required. Capacity limited to 100 inside the Church. Interment will follow in the St. Norbert Parish Cemetery. A celebration of Joanna's life will follow later in September.

So sorry for your loss love and prayers. - Posted by: delores macintyre (Friend of the family from Boisdale,) on: Aug 26, 2021
Formerly from Christmas Island. Joanna & I went to Iona High School. Met in Sydney. Kept in touch for a few years with letters when I came to Toronto with sister who married in '66. Joanna went to Manitoba & I went to Montreal. Met her & Bert at CN station when they were on route to Boisdale. Joanna was expecting the twins. I recall I was astounded with their birth weights both over 5 lbs. each. Joanna was such a tiny person. Life got in way & we lost touch. But I always felt a friendship and have happy memories of our youth. She had a great sense of humour. I offer my sincere sympathy to her loving family. - Posted by: Betty Seymour (MacNeil) (Friend ) on: Aug 26, 2021
