JANET WEIR
(née SUGGITT)
Born June 29, 1938 - Winnipeg, Manitoba
Died August 7, 2021 - Westmount, Quebec
She was predeceased by her brothers, Wayne and James.
Jan was born in Winnipeg on July 29, 1938, to James Suggitt and Wynetta Waters. She attended Greenway School, Daniel McIntyre, and Norwood Collegiate.
She was a born teacher and she loved to educate and support her students, and the students loved her.
Jan taught grades one and two for four years at Lord Selkirk School in Winnipeg, and when we moved to London, Ontario in 1963, she taught two years of grade three at Mildred B. Baron.
We moved on to Montreal where she graduated from McGill University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Education degree, after which she taught Adult Education at Woodland, and Special Needs Education at Beaconsfield High, and later taught English as a Second Language at Pie IX and Literacy at the High School of Montreal.
We enjoyed one year of living, discovering, and working in Paris, France.
She is survived by her husband Steve Weir, and their children, James (Bernadette) and Jennifer (Peter), and the loves of her life, her granddaughters, Kathleen, Elizabeth (Weir), and Alison and Leah (Poszwaylo).
Jan and I travelled extensively, but our best trip was rafting on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Jan especially loved the many weeks with family, over many years, at just about every island in the Caribbean.
We had a wonderful life together.
There will be a celebration of her life in Toronto on Saturday, September 18. Please contact Bernadette LeMoine at 647-746-1101 or email blemoine12@gmail.com for details.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 25 at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Boul. des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeux (a suburb of Montreal) at 1:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

Although my memories of Janet are from a long way back, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the entire Weir family. Her father, Uncle Jimmy gave me my first part time job at age 16 at the Manitoba Cold Storage Facility. Her mother, Aunt Winnie was a kind and gentle woman who welcomed everyone, that came into contact with her with a generous smile. My sisters Chris, Gayle and I visited her in Victoria BC. during Expo 88. We had coffee and dainties in her apartment one sunny afternoon. Your eulogy of Janet was beautiful, and your love for her was touching and heartfelt. She truly left her mark on, I am sure, thousands of former students and friends. Peace to my cousin Janet, and may each memory be a blessing to everyone in the Weir and Poszwaylo families. Rod Suggitt. - Posted by: Rodney K. Suggitt (First Cousin) on: Sep 01, 2021
