WILLIAM BELL MUNRO

On August 21, 2021, Bill Munro passed away peacefully at the age of 96 after a brief period of ill health.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Dave and Margaret; brothers, Don (Nora) and Gordon; his loving wife Kae (1987), and June (1999). He leaves to celebrate his life and mourn his loss, his children, Kent and Laurie (Don); grandchildren, Tessa and Arlin; and his very good friend Betty.
Bill was born in Montreal on March 18, 1925. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1949 after a two year period in the Canadian Army serving in England and Europe in the latter stages of the Second World War.
Bill enjoyed going to work in his favored vocation of Livestock Marketing and Meat Packing for 37 years, retiring in 1986 as the General Manager of the Manitoba Hog Producers Marketing Board. His other life time passions included golf (both playing and watching), watching baseball and hockey, and keeping up to date on his children and grandchildren's lives up north in Canada.
Bill and Kae loved spending time in their family cottage at Betula Lake where they spent most every summer while their children were growing up. After Kae's death, Bill wintered in Palm Desert where he later met and married June Sivert.
One of Bill's exceptional attributes was that he loved to help others. This was clearly demonstrated by the pleasure he got from volunteering on many boards, and in particular The Red River Exhibition from 1962 to 1987, the Southwest Church in Indian Wells where he was a greeter, Shadow Mountain Golf Club and the Fountains of Carlotta in Palm Desert, CA.
Bill's family would like to take this opportunity to give a special thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at The Fountains of Carlotta, Palm Desert, CA.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Kent, Laurie, Don and family, Though I never met all of you, (Laurie, I may have met you on one of your visits to see your dad), I knew your dad. I heard him talk of his family many times. I am Marilynn McIntyre's daughter, Ellen. I was about to send a birthday email to Bill, until I saw his obituary. The last time I spoke with Bill was in 2019. Marilynn and my dad met Bill thru their longtime friend, June Sivert. After my dad passed. June and Bill kept close to Marilynn, dinners out and going to local events. Bill and June lived in the same condo complex as my aunt and uncle, Walter & Gretchen McIntyre. After one of several trips to Canada, mom and Bill stopped to spend time with me in Los Gatos, CA. On their last trip, they returned home, and Marilynn was diagnosed with cancer. Bill was an angel helping her thru her doctor appts, going to church, dinners and being there for her. Marilynn passed August 23, 2007. For many years after, Bill would call me on her birthday, Aug 10th. I am flooded with so many wonderful memories. Bill was always so kind and helpful. He gave back and lived a life that inspires to reach out to help others. My thoughts are with you.
