Emilia Fulmyk (nee Bohdanowicz) was born on March 10, 1927, and died on August 28, 2021. She was 94 years old.
Left behind is her loving family, son Chris Fulmyk, daughter-in-law Irene Rajfur Fulmyk, granddaughter Alison Fulmyk and husband Paul De Gurse; daughter Anna Thor (Fulmyk), her life partner Allan Gibson, grandson Dylan Thor and granddaughter Devon Thor. Emilia was predeceased by her husband Lech Fulmyk in 2000.
Emilia was born near Wilno, Poland in 1927. She spent her youth making most of life living on the family farm. She often spoke of her friends, riding horses and enjoyed helping around the farm. In 1939 the Second World War began and life as she knew it came to an end. Emilia, her mother and siblings were deported to a work camp in Russia. Life was tenuous and bleak for the family living on the brink of starvation. From 1942 to 1945 she and her family spent the remainder of the war in Tehran, Iran, and from 1945 to 1947 in Lebanon. She spoke very fondly of her time in Iran and Lebanon where life took on more normalcy. She attended and finished her schooling, made new friends, and she enjoyed living in such exotic surroundings. In 1947 Emilia and her family moved to England where Emilia eventually met her husband-to-be Lech Fulmyk. Lech was a Polish refugee like Emilia and both were looking for a new life outside of Poland. They married in 1954 and soon made the decision to move to Canada, specifically Winnipeg, Manitoba. Family followed family and soon Emilia's mother and her two brothers also moved to Winnipeg. Canada became home. Emilia and Lech had two children, Chris and Anna, and their lives were deeply rooted in the Polish community in Winnipeg. Emilia and her husband belonged to SPK, a Polish Association for Poles living in Canada. Emilia and Lech made many new friends in Winnipeg and lived in a supportive community of like-minded people. Years later, when the children were teenagers, Emilia and her husband bought land and built a cabin in cottage country outside Winnipeg and spent decades "going to the cottage" on weekends and over the summer months. Many precious memories were made there.
Sadly over the last decade Emilia started showing signs of dementia. She often repeated the phrase "starosc nie radosc" which means that old age is nothing to rejoice about. Our family is thankful to Magda Rylka who for six years worked as Emilia's companion. She helped Emilia with day to day chores and indulged her love of walking outdoors. During her last four years Emilia lived at Irene Baron Center where she received excellent care and we are thankful to the staff there. Emilia continued to enjoy her family and grandchildren and liked to reminisce about the good old days. Emilia was a gentle, loving and kind person who loved her family deeply until the very end. She was very much loved by us all and we will miss her.

spoczywaj w pokoju moja mamma
