STEVE BALAZS
Pityu, our beloved spouse, uncle, brother was born in Tatabanya, Hungary in 1934.
He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Ilona, Manci and Eva and his first wife Traute.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving companion and spouse of 35 years, Olga and stepdaughter Agnes; nieces, Susan (Robert), Eva (Len) and Gitta and great-nieces and nephews and their children, Kelly, Lukyan, Ksenya, Lindsay (Dale), Braeden, Alex, Ralston (Kandace), Kevin (Tesh), Daniel, as well as extended family and many close and wonderful friends, both in Hungary and Canada.
During the 1956 Revolution Pityu, his sisters, Ilona and Eva and their children escaped from Communist Hungary, first to a refugee camp in Austria and subsequently immigrating to Winnipeg, Canada.
Steve worked as a foreman for many years, and retired from Canadian Anglo. He was a kind and loving person who enjoyed spending time with Olga, Agnes, his family and his friends. He enjoyed boating, fishing and gardening.
Pityu was also very active in the Hungarian community. One of his most favourite places to be was Saint Stephen's Hungarian Hall, where you would have found him tending bar, or frying langos at the Hungaria pavilion during Folklorama.
Due to the pandemic, a private service will be held for family and invited guests.
A special thank you goes out to all the staff at Riverview Health Center, 2 west for their exceptional and compassionate care of Steve.
In lieu of flowers, if people wish to honour Steve's memory, donations can be made to: Hungarian Canadian Cultural Society (HCCS), 443 Selkirk Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R2W 2M4.

My condolences go out to the family. I am a health care aide who helped look after Steve at RHC. I will miss his jokes, his smile and his sassy ways. He will be missed at RHC. - Posted by: Maureen (Caregiver) on: Sep 04, 2021
