MARIA LEE
192? - August, 2021

Yes, you read that correctly. As a very young orphan girl in Russia, survivor of concentration camps, and, later, a proud Canadian citizen, Mom's birthdate/year was arbitrarily determined when the camps were liberated.
As she had hoped, Mom was cradled by her two daughters, Terèsa and Michelle, when she passed on the afternoon of Friday, August 27, 2021.
In true Maria fashion, Mom gave us the gift of peaceful and graceful last moments together.

"To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power.
Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow." Maya Angelou

Due to Covid concerns, a service will not be held at this time.
Her life was remarkable.

Condolences may be left on her Tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com.

Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk
in care of arrangements.

  • Teresa: We are truly sorry to learn that Mrs. Lee has passed. We remember her as a gracious and lovely person. At a concert where the four of us were present, Adelaide was required to leave. Your Mom accompanied her and stayed with her until she felt better and was able to return to her seat. Adelaide remembers her kindness with deep gratitude. • Michelle & Teresa Sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. Never knew she had such an incredible past. Somewhat similar to my dad who was in several war camps including Auchswitz. I read her story in the Free Press passages this weekend. Thought I would reach out. Michelle wondering what and how you are doing these days.
