ANNE OAKE
February 12, 1956 - September 6, 2021
She is survived by husband Scott, son Darcy and his partner Leslie. Anne was predeceased by son Bruce in 2011.
Anne's life was about caring for others; as a wife, mother, palliative care nurse and founder and matriarch of the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre. She lived her life by her favourite expression, "it costs nothing to be kind to someone."
We will celebrate Anne's life at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 11 in the gymnasium of the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre, 255 Hamilton Avenue with a reception to follow immediately at Canad Inns Polo Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anne's memory can be made at Bruceoakefoundation.ca

My sincere feelings to the family for the passing of this extraordinary woman, who, for the little I read, was able to overcome a personal drama, transforming pain into help for others! I am so sorry to hear of Anne's passing. While we had not spoken for many many years, we had recently re-connected through Facebook and I was very excited at the prospect of seeing her on my way through Winnipeg in late August. Anne mentioned she was unwell but was very excited for the Opening at the Recovery Centre. Our get together did not happen, but I see from reading all these wonderful tributes that Anne continued to be a 'force to be reckoned with'. Seems she lived an extraordinary and giving life. My deepest sympathy to you Scott and your son Darcy. - Posted by: Linda Carter (High School Best friends/Anne was my Maid of Honour) on: Sep 16, 2021

I had the pleasure of meeting Anne when we both began as clinical instructors for UM nursing students. We became friends during this time and shared our love of the lake as both were 2nd generation cottage owners. I think Anne was one of the loveliest people I had ever met. It was a pleasure to know her and she will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to Scott, Darcy and family. CBC Sports has a significant extended family and Scott, Anne and "the boys" are well known to many thanks to Scott's willingness to share both the funniest and most difficult experiences in life - with equal honesty. You have never hesitated to do for others and have been there for all in time of need. Now it is our turn if there is anything that can be done in this moment of yours. On behalf of everyone at CBC Sports, please accept our condolences with respect and sincerity. There is no question that Anne made the world a better place than the one she found. The seeds she planted in Bruce's memory, at the Recovery Centre, have become a garden and the legacy of that work, and all her efforts, will no doubt save the lives of all who struggle to be saved. Can there be a better measure of a person than that? To have brought joy in life to those you love and to have ensured a legacy of hope for generations to come. Anne did all that - and more. - Posted by: Your Friends at CBC Sports (Many there are: past & present) on: Sep 14, 2021

My sincere condolences to Scott and Darcy. I’ve worked with Scott for many years and met Anne before they were married. Through the years whenever I saw her, she brightened the room with her smile, caring and positive energy. The Entire Oake family was one of a kind. Being a very popular hockey announcer made him well known but their life revolved around making other lives better. They battled like many families have but found a way to bring help to many others who need it more than they did. Anne & Scott worked tirelessly towards the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre to help so many others who had family issues like theirs. Winnipeg has lost a very bright light in Anne Oake. Our thoughts & Prayers are with you Scott, Darcy & Leslie. - Posted by: Keith McLennan (Friend) on: Sep 08, 2021

Dear Scott, Darcy and Leslie, Somethings leave a person stunned and speechless. I just heard of Anne's passing. This is what I will remember. With all that your hearts have endured so far, you still had space left to take the time and build a place in the name of your son Bruce. Bruce Oake Recovery Centre. It's a wonderful opportunity for some good and decent people to not feel alone in the ongoing struggle with addiction to get better. Scott please keep with your mission so the baton continues to be handed onward. My sincerest condolences to all of you. My deepest sympathy to Scott and Darcy… I remember when Scott first brought Anne to the CBC studio (I might have teased Scott for being a somewhat shy gentleman caller!)…. Of course, I remember when both Bruce and Darcy were born. And I worked with Anne quite a few times when she ran the P.R. Department at the St. Vital Shopping Centre and CBC did programs there. Anne was perfect to work with, and things always ran smoothly. Much will be written and said about Anne, Scott and Darcy’s colossal achievement in creating the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre, and there are no words to express what this accomplishment means to so many families. Anne set an example for all of us. Again, my deepest sympathy. Frankie Glickman Victoria, BC - Posted by: Ms Frankie Glickman (Anne’s friend, Scott’s colleague) on: Sep 08, 2021
