Date of Passing: Sep 07, 2021Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory
Jo-Ann was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Bruce Carswell; as well as her sister and brother-in-law Helen and Bill Komarnisky.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 56 years, Zenon; her sons, Darren (Julie) and Warren (Jennifer), and her especially loved granddaughters, Nicole and Erica.
Jo-Ann was born, raised and lived the remainder of her days in her much-loved home town of Winnipeg. She graduated from St. John's High School and then went on to post-secondary education at Red River College where she earned her certificate in Accounting.
She started her working career at Moore's Business Forms. After that, she really enjoyed working with the original Winnipeg Jets team. An avid sports fan throughout her life, she regularly attended Jets (1.0 and 2.0), Moose, Goldeyes and Bomber games. She ended her working career at The Northwest Company where she worked for 10 years before taking her retirement.
Throughout her retirement years Jo-Ann loved to travel. She and Zenon enjoyed many coach tours, riverboat cruises and self-guided adventures together. Of all the places visited, Europe and Cuba were her favourites. When travelling closer to home, she enjoyed camping in their Boler trailer.
Her hobbies and interests were many and varied. She was as comfortable playing a round of golf as she was playing Bach or Beethoven on the piano. A true nature lover, her favourite hobby was gardening. For it was there, in the garden, surrounded by the flowers and vegetables she had so fondly planted that she could enjoy all the beauties of nature. We believe she had the best garden in Fort Garry.
Later when she moved to our home in the country, she continued to garden but also took great pleasure in watching all the fauna that would visit the acreage: rabbits, squirrels and deer being amongst her favourites. Particular attention was paid to the chickadees and hummingbirds whose feeders she devotedly attended to.
She was a beautiful person and will be lovingly missed.

To Zenon and his family deepest sympathy on your loss. I have many fond memories of our friendship and years spent together on Cathedral Avenue. Strangely at the time of Joanne’s passing I was recalling the last weekend before school started as that was the time her parents held an annual corn roast in their backyard…all the kids on the block brought something to share…hot dogs, marshmallows even potatoes from their gardens. It was a memorable end to summer and a welcoming to autumn and another school. Zenon I extend my condolences to you on the passing of your longtime partner Joanne. Many the many memories of past times comfort you in the days ahead - Posted by: judith Worbeck (childhood friend and neighbour) on: Sep 11, 2021
