July 9, 1951 - August 5, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Rick Jansen on August 5, 2021 at the age of 70 at St. Boniface General Hospital.
He will be forever remembered and loved by his wife of 46 years Linda; his daughters, Sandra (Steve) and Crystal (Mike); his especially loved grandchildren, Brielle and Matthew. Rick will be fondly remembered by his nephews, David, Stefan (Lise) and his niece Tracey (Rogelio); and many other surviving family members.
Rick was predeceased by his parents, William and Opal; his sister Patricia; his brother-in-law Louie; his sister-in-law Marilyn and brother-in-law Tom.
Rick grew up in the Norwood Flats and worked at a young age with the family business "Jansen Produce". He attended Nelson McIntyre Collegiate and pursued his post-secondary studies at Red River College in business management and marketing. He began his sales career working at Sweda Registers and several years later, he pursued an opportunity at ADT Security Systems in commercial sales. Rick had an out-going personality and he made friends wherever he went. Throughout his career, he made many long-time friends from near and far who he kept in contact with even after his retirement. Rick had an admirable work ethic, and his ambitious nature was evident as he often was presented with numerous awards of excellence throughout his career.
Upon retirement, Rick continued his love of travel with his wife Linda. They explored several European countries, Costa Rica, Alaskan cruise, as well as others. He also enjoyed spending more time at their cottage at Albert Beach with family and friends. He was an avid Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan and also enjoyed cheering on the Winnipeg Jets. Rick loved dogs and enjoyed visiting with Daisy and Hunter.
Although Rick faced challenges after his spinal injury in 2018 resulting in paraplegia, he persevered and continued with a positive outlook on life. The family would like to thank homecare for their kindness and care the last two years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rick's memory to Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue or the Lake Winnipeg Foundation.
A celebration of his life will take place the morning of Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.
Due to Covid restrictions, space is limited and if you wish to attend please e-mail to RSVP. Attendees will be required to wear masks and be asked to present proof of double vaccination prior to entering the Celebration of Life.
Condolences, tributes and memories may be shared at EJ Coutu Funeral Home website: under the "Memory Wall" tab above Rick's obituary.

  • Sending our condolences to Linda and family. I worked with Rick for 25 years at ADT and became friends with both Rick and Linda. A big memory was attending a work function in Phoenix with Rick and Linda. We had so much fun! from that time on we all became friends. If we ever needed a deal on something, Rick would be the "go to guy" as he had so many contacts and knew everyone. We were so saddened to hear of Rick's passing and will miss him dearly. We would have loved to attend his Service but were unable to due to Covid restrictions. - Posted by: Don and Tami Agland (Friend) on: Sep 29, 2021

  • Dear Rick. It is with a heavy heart that I write these words. You have been such a good friend. I am certain that you have been a benevolent influence on countless people throughout your life. Missed will be your positive outlook, optimism, generosity and sense of humour. Your affable nature truly came to the forefront during your long health challenge and extended stay at the Health Sciences Centre. Here, from your wheelchair, you commanded and were chair of the welcome committee, the social committee, and became the jovial hub of hospital society; for the benefit of both patients and staff. You provided hope, humour and help, whenever it was required. You loved to gently kid others, as this was your way of showing affection. You have always had a good heart and would never shrink from dispensing your cheery and amiable nature in support of those in need around you. We will always remember with fondness our many evenings spent together at Albert where the world’s problems were dissipated and resolved. Those were indeed, great times - a memory we will hold forever. How you will be sorely missed - you gentle and generous giant of a man! - Posted by: JP Brunet (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2021

  • Dear Linda, Sandra, and Crystal John and I are so sorry for your loss. Rick was so proud of his 3 girls. Rick always spoke kindly of people and always made you feel so comfortable. I remember when he had to have an operation and he asked the nurses to sing "Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty, little ball of fur." He will be greatly missed by all. We always looked forward to seeing you two at parties as we had so much fun and enjoyed your company. - Posted by: Sharon and John Krupinski (Friend) on: Sep 24, 2021
