VALERIE LYNNE ROGERS
(nee HART)
Left to mourn her passing are her elder brother Dennis; nephews, Colin and Cameron; grandnephew Joshua all of Calgary, AB; her sister Lesley Hull of Parksville, BC; nephews, Tim Hull of Vancouver, BC and Hugh Hull of Winnipeg, MB; her younger brother Paul and sister-in-law Harriet of Ajijc, Mexico and many first, second and third cousins of Winnipeg, MB. Formerly of Oakville and Toronto, ON, she was predeceased by her husband Raymond Keith Rogers, as well as her parents, Gerald and Emily Hart of Winnipeg, MB and many cousins also of Winnipeg, MB.
Valerie grew up in the East Kildonan area of Winnipeg, where after completing high school, she entered nurses training at Winnipeg's Salvation Army Grace Hospital, graduating in 1962. Moving east to Toronto a few years later, she continued to practice nursing and met and married her husband Ray.
Her last several years in Ontario were lived in Oakville, where she was able to develop and display her horticultural abilities, as she created a veritable backyard garden paradise. She also became an active member of the Oakville Horticultural Society, where her prize-winning floral arrangements won her many trophies at the annual plant show. Then, in 2015, her failing health prompted her to move out west to Vancouver Island, to be near her family.
Valerie will be remembered for her love of beauty and design, her own creative originality and generosity of spirit.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Qualicum Manor for their excellent care and to her former neighbours on Forest Glade Road. A private funeral to follow.
"The quality of mercy is not stained.
It droppeth as a gentle rain from heaven
upon the place beneath."
Rest in Peace, dear Valerie.
