It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Liz Meakin (Meiklejohn) on Saturday, September 18, 2021.
Liz will be sadly missed by her daughters, Madi and Meg, brothers, John, Ranny and Peter, and especially her companion, chicken-nug. In addition, Liz will be missed by many other family members, along with work and ringette friends. Liz was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Mary Meiklejohn.
Liz was born at St. Boniface Hospital in June of 1962. She grew up in Old St. Vital with her three brothers on Morier Avenue. Liz was always a social person and loved spending her time with friends and family. Liz went on to have a family with Bert Meakin and had two beautiful girls, Madi and Meg. Her passion was her girls. Liz was a proud ringette and softball mom. If her girls accomplished anything, you were sure to hear of it. She was proud of all her daughters' accomplishments and was their biggest cheerleader. There is nothing in the world Liz wouldn't have done for her daughters.
Right out of high school, Liz started her career with Great West Life. She worked there for 30 plus years and progressed up to a manager role. This job gave her friendships that lasted her a lifetime. The family wants to thank Great West Life for how they treated Liz throughout her time there.
Liz was the life of the party. She would never go unnoticed at an event. Whether it be her perfume, dancing, or her spunk, you knew when Liz was in a room. Some of her favourite pastimes were playing cards to the wee hours with her family, sunbathing by the pool, and watching sports. Liz was an avid Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan to say the least. No matter the importance of the game, you would always hear Liz shouting at the TV. We are thankful that the Grey Cup visited Riverview Healthcare Centre and Liz was able to see it when the Bombers won in 2019.
The family would like to thank Victoria Hospital and Riverview Healthcare Centre for the care they gave to Liz.
Liz will be greatly missed by many, but the memories of her will stay with us forever.
Due to Covid-19, a private service will be held at the family's request.
Memorial donations may be made in Liz's name to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • My condolences to Madi, Meg, Bert and the entire Meiklejohn family. I was lucky enough to have met Liz at a very early age as her parents and my parents were friends. We lost touch, however were reunited again as we both worked at GWL. It was always such a pleasure bumping into her in the hall and catching up. Eventually my daughter Kelly and her daughter Madi attended school together and soon became friends. Kelly always had the nicest things to say about Liz! It seems like our paths were always meant to cross. She will be missed by all who knew her! - Posted by: Joanne Jeanson (Albo) (Family friend) on: Sep 29, 2021
