November 20, 1976 - September 19, 2021

With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Donald on September 19, 2021, at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre, due to under lying health issues.
Don was predeceased by his mother Bonnie Young, and his Oma Mia Van Helden.
Left to cherish his memory are his father Harry Van Helden (Jo-Anne), Cheryl Davreux; his sisters, Mia and Monica; brother David; and nephews, Drake and Oliver.
As a child, Donnie loved being outside. He loved and always looked forward to family camping trips and spending summers at the family cottage at Star Lake. Donnie loved being a big brother. He was always playing with his little sisters and never had to try too hard to convince them to join in on any new game or adventures he would think up. They loved him and will cherish the many memories of their shenanigans together. Donnie was adventurous at heart. Whether he was jumping his bike off the dock at West Hawk Lake, snowboarding in the Rockies, surfing at Cocoa Beach, or riding Space Mountain in Disneyworld, he went for it and he was a natural.
Don struggled with mental illness in his later teen years and throughout his adult life. Through his struggles, Don taught us patience and kindness as we all tried to cope with his illness. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre, Psych Health, P.A.C.T., and Selkirk Mental Health Centre for everything they did to help us keep Donnie safe through the years.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service has been held.

May you rest in peace now Don,
and be free from all your pain.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Peer Connections Manitoba in Don's name.
