ROBERT SYPULSKI (BOB)
Date of Passing: Sep 29, 2021Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory
1935 - 2021
Bob is survived by his loving wife Noreen, of 62 years, as well as two sons, Michael (Flo), David (Diane), daughter Barbara, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren all of whom he loved dearly. Bob was predeceased by his son Thomas, his mother and father, three brothers and one sister.
A lover of good music, Bob started his career at the early age of 12 years, joining the 48th Highlanders of Canada Cadet Pipe and Trumpet Band, playing side drum. When he was 15 years old he joined the Queens Own Rifle Bugle Reserve Band. Just before his 19th birthday, he joined the regular forces at Camp Borden. In 1954 he boarded an American troop ship to Korea.
In 1958 Bob was transferred to the R.C.H.A. Regimental Band in Winnipeg. He transferred to the R.C.A.F. Training Command Band in 1968, which later became the Air Command Band. He remained with the Air Command Band until he retired after 36 years of service, playing percussion. He had the honour of playing for our Queen and Prince Phillip either on parade or at mess dinners, as well as playing dirge drum at the funeral of Prime Minister Deiffenbaker.
He loved all kinds of music, having played with the Air Command dance band. He was honoured when invited to play with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Classical being his first love.
Bob loved bowling and belonged to teams at both Park Alleys and Mosienko Lanes. He twice reached a score of 418, but the perfect game eluded him. He and his family were also members of the Fort Rouge Legion #97. He played in, and won, many tournaments.
Being a member of St. James Legion #4, he was often seen out on the links playing his "other love", golf, or in the lounge playing snooker. Dad's favourite thing to do was being with family.
The family would like to thank all the staff of Courage Bay at River East Personal Care Home, and a special thank-you to Shauna, who made him smile every day.
The service for Robert will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm with viewing one half hour prior to service.
Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)
Deepest condolences to Noreen and family. Worked with Bob in the 1960's and 70's.. One of the best rudimentary drummers I ever heard. No drum pattern was ever too hard to play. Enjoyed many rounds of golf with Bob and have many fond memories. Also bowled a lot with him and couldn't understand why he always blamed me when he punched a headpin. Again, many fond memories. RIP Bob. - Posted by: Bob Hall (friend/co-worker) on: Oct 07, 2021
Bob taught Drum lessons at Kent's Accordion College in the 1970's. I was fortunate enough to be one of his students. He was an amazing, gifted teacher! Bob inspired and encouraged me to go on to study Music at Brandon University and earn my Music Education Degree as a Percussion major. This led to my 40 year career as a Band Director in Manitoba, plus part-time instructional work with the Air and Navy Cadet Band Programs in Manitoba and Alberta. Thank you Bob! You will be remembered! - Posted by: Don Horbas (Former Student and Musician) on: Oct 03, 2021
