October 31, 1961 - October 4, 2021

Tragically on October 4, Cynthia - our daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend - was taken far too soon from us.
She leaves behind her husband Alan; parents, Betty and Dave; sister Caren; daughter Michelle (Greg); stepdaughters, Sara (Nathan) and Alana (Mark); along with grandson Cameron and of course, Buster the cat. She was predeceased by her beloved grandparents, Burt and Violet Harkness.
Cynthia was born in Gilbert Plains and was raised in the Dauphin area. She graduated with Honours in Psychology from U of M and went on to get her Masters in Education from McGill. In 1985 she moved to Swan River where she met Al. They married in 1988 and had just celebrated 35 years together. In 1993 they moved to Winnipeg where Cynthia went back to school and earned her MBA - all while working full time and raising a family. She had been employed almost 20 years with Desjardins Financial where she had many loyal clients and her work family.
Everyone who knew Cynthia, knew of the absolute joy that the Christmas season brought. From the elaborate decorations, her famous Christmas cookies, generous gifts - Cynthia went all out and made this time of year memorable and special for everyone. She was completely devoted to her family, especially Al. She had an incredible work ethic that she applied not only to her work and volunteering, but to her family where she was the heart and soul. There are not enough words to express the void that is left without her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation in Cynthia's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society or Parkinson Canada.

  • I worked with Cynthia at Rice Financial for years. Cynthia was a great funancial advisor that always put her clients first and always expected the best for everyone. We had some great conversation after hours and I learned that her passion for excellence was only out paced by her love of her family.
