ANNE BURIAK

In sadness we announce the sudden peaceful passing of our sister and aunt, Anne Buriak, on October 6, 2021 at the Misericordia Interim Care, age 102.
Anne was born in the Point Douglas area of Winnipeg on December 3, 1918. She was the second child of ten born to Michael and Mary Burak. The family moved to a homestead in Medika, MB in the mid 1920s. Anne returned to Winnipeg in the late 1930s working as a domestic and then in the garment industry until retiring at 65.
Anne lived through many hardships and celebrations: from learning to make bread at age 10, helping her mother through the Great Depression, and witnessing with joy and relief the safe return of three brothers from the Second World War.
Anne was a lady of faith, belonging to St. Margaret's Anglican Church. She was always well dressed and loved her jewelry. Among the many activities she enjoyed were cooking, sewing, telling life stories, a good laugh, and growing a little garden where she shared a home with some of her siblings in the Wolseley neighbourhood. She maintained a strong work ethic; in her home caring for her parents and siblings, all the while being employed. Being the eldest girl, she had many responsibilities beyond her measure.
An avid cat lover, Anne adored her feline pets. And if there were a Jets or Bomber game on TV she was sure to watch as she was a lifelong fan.
For the last three years Anne resided at the Cathedral Manor in St. Boniface. Until that time Anne was independent, preparing meals and even shovelling snow at age 99!
Anne is survived by her sisters, Helen and Josephine, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was loved and respected, and will be missed and fondly remembered.
A private interment was held on October 13, 2021 at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery.

Rest in Peace with the Lord dear Anne.
