Born to Johan and Johanna Vander Horst on March 14, 1948, he is predeceased by his wife Patricia and brother John.
He is survived by his four siblings, Ria, Johanna (Paul), Jo (Judy) and Fran (Jeff); as well as his children, Chris (Kristin), Neil (Kim), Adele (Steve), Derek and Kurtis and his grandchildren, Rylan, Daye, Jonas, Shawn, Austin, Emma, Becca, Jolie, Eliott, Claira, Gracie, Solara, Olivia and Beckett.
Martin was a man with many stories to tell. He had a zest for life and doing things his way. There was always a lesson in those stories and countless laughs shared. His motto was "some people will like me, some will hate me, but no one will ever forget me." He will be dearly missed by the countless people whose lives he was part of.
His family would like to continue his legacy of love and asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.

I was so saddened to hear of Martin’s passing. I understand that his quality of life diminished dramatically. Take solace that his suffering is over. To my nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces know that Auntie has you in my heart and prayers. Jo, I know that you and Marty held a special relationship as brothers. Hold all the memories you created with him close to your heart, for that’s where he will be.
