EDWARD GEORGE GOWEN
May 31, 1938 October 8, 2021
husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, after a short illness.
Edward was born and raised in Selkirk, Manitoba, eldest child and only son of George and Bernice. He and Jeanette (nee Znack) his loving wife of almost 63 years, spent the
majority of their lives in Winnipeg, raising their four children in Windsor Park.
The family moved to Snow Lake with
Manitoba Tel (MTS) early in Ed's working
career, later moving to Winnipeg and
Newmarket, Ontario with IBM. He took an
offer of early retirement from IBM to move back to Manitoba. Ed and Jeanette settled in Oakbank where they enjoyed the small-town lifestyle and their big garden. They were dedicated members of their church
community, Ed serving as treasurer. After surviving a serious illness, Ed and Jeanette decided to move back in to the city of
Winnipeg to start their "real retirement".
Dad was a kind, quiet, and gentle man who enjoyed camping with family, and in later years travelling with Jeanette to Hawaii, on cruises, or visiting son Brent and family in Europe and BC. An avid photographer, Dad took hundreds of photos where ever he went. He loved his cameras and his computers. He also had an interest in tall ships, and found joy in building model replicas. He cherished visits from family, particularly Spaghetti
Fridays with Katelyn that had become a much looked forward to routine.
Edward was husband to Jeanette; father to Debbie (Len), Brent (Cindy), Cheryl and
David; grandfather to Katelyn, Sarah, Jared, Galen, Christopher, Mathew (Amber), and
Nicholas; great-grandfather to Lincoln and Lillian; brother to Carol, Gail, Diane and
Meredith. He was predeceased by his son
David in 2018 and his sister Meredith in 2020.
Dad was steadfast and stoic to the end, and will be greatly missed by us all.
The family would like to thank the staff at River Ridge II for their kind support and care over the past few months.
Memorial donations in Dad's name may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation
