April 18, 1935 - October 19, 2021

It is with great sadness and regret we announce the unexpected passing of Robert Borden LaCombe at the age of 86.
Bert/Bob was born and raised in Winnipeg. Early in his work career he worked for the Bank of Canada. While working here, Dad and his family were transferred to Ottawa where they lived for two years.
After that, Dad returned to Winnipeg to run the family soft drink business, Dan's Beverages. A few years later Dad stepped into the career he loved, managing the overall accounting for dealerships such as Dominion Motors, Chrysler Truck Center, and Westport Chrysler until he retired at age 64.
Dad enjoyed league bowling for a number of years, and curled as a skip for many years at West Kildonan Curling Club. There Dad made wonderful friendships that continued on, long post-curling, with their "monthly lunches" for many, many years.
From an early age Dad enjoyed music, learning to play Guitar, the Steel Guitar and Bass Guitar. We have heard many wonderful stories about his days playing at Patterson's Barn before we were born. Dad enjoyed playing in bands with the Red River Playboys, with Glen Frain, and later with Ted Fraser who became his best friend. There were many memorable events with Dad playing with Ted at weddings, the Red River Ex, and numerous Manitoba Festivals.
Dad was predeceased by his father Joe in 1969 and mother Nettie in 2016.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 65 years, Wanda, his daughter Cindy Kasprick (Barry), daughter Terry Hickman (Kent), son Rob LaCombe (Debbie), grandchildren, Jennifer Kasprick, Mike Kasprick, Kyla LaCombe, Mandy Hale (Daniel), Justice Hickman, great-grandson Joey Hickman, and sister-in-law Patricia Hudgins.
A viewing will take place at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., on Monday, October 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All are welcome. Masks required.
Dad's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 26 at 12:00 p.m., also held at Cropo Funeral Chapel. Unfortunately, only people who are fully vaccinated may attend his funeral, our apologies, masks required. All are welcome to attend Dad's interment at Elmwood Cemetery following the funeral service.

Rest Dad, your pain is over. We love you.

  • I remember on many occasions going to Winnipeg Beach with Mr and Mrs LaCombe and them letting Rob and my self go and ride Rob's mini bike all over Winnipeg Beach. It’s one of my fondest memories of Mr LaCombe. - Posted by: Gary Chernetski (Child hood Friend Of Robby) on: Oct 27, 2021

  • Wanda and Terry, I am sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I have thought of him often over the years. He was a role model for me. From his training, I spent over 30 years in automotive accounting. Bonnie Kasper - Posted by: Bonnie Kasper (Coworker) on: Oct 25, 2021

  • So very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Curled with Bob for years at West Kildonan Curling Club and we travelled to many Bonspiels together. Bob was our Skip and we actually won a few of them. Never saw him get rattled. Bought a number of cars and vans through Bob at Westport. He was a good friend and we'll miss him. John and Marge. - Posted by: John and Marge Mirus (Friend ) on: Oct 25, 2021

  • Bob showed me how to do everything, I didn't know how to do, at my first job at Dominion motors. Such a great lasting memory of a great man. Thanks Bob. Great memories of 1968. - Posted by: Lorraine (Brown) (Don)Hughes (Acquaintance) on: Oct 23, 2021
