Eileen grew up in the north end where she met her husband Bernie. She worked at Canada Packers in the office, then was a book clerk at Misericordia Hospital. Her main occupation was working at the Hudson Bay Company in the audit office for at least 30 years.
She was devoted to her family and friends. Her passion was sewing, crafts, cooking, dancing and having lots of fun. Eileen and Bernie loved going to the Rockwood Legion, playing cards, socializing and helping out where they could. She volunteered visiting people in care homes brightening their spirits. They were the friendliest, helpful family that were a great pleasure to know, as they treated us as their own. In the 60’s It was my fortune to work with Eileen at the Bay Credit Office Tom & I loved each other’s company at 10 pin bowling for many years, we visited back & forth for lots of Fun times, mainly eating homemade cinnamon buns & coffee. • I moved in to the house on Harvard Avenue next to Bernie and Eileen in 1982. I was a naive first-time home owner with a newborn son taking over a huge money-pit renovation project. Shortly after we took possession of the house, the backyard fence between our properties blew down in a spring gale. Even though it should have been jointly maintained, Bernie and Eileen, seeing my financial and time stresses, offered to replace it, which they did. It was the start of a few years of knowing this wonderfully warm and helpful couple, who provided us with support and ideas in our renovations and restoring the back garden. Farewell were such a great neighbour! - Posted by: Neil Arnason (Former Neighbour of Bernie and Eileen) on: Oct 23, 2021
