DENNIS BAPTISTE

On October 22, 2021, Dennis Ashley Baptiste passed away at the age of 35.
He leaves to mourn his daughter Shanea, son Lazarus and their younger siblings; his mom Isabel, sisters, Leona, Wanda, Lisa, Charity, Chantel, Kateri and Joy, sister-in-law Charlene, and brothers, Nathaniel, Cameron, Ritch, Ryan, and Kyle, as well his Baptiste siblings from Little Grand Rapids, special friend Lucille, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his dad Nathaniel Duck and mom Ellen Baptiste, dad Buzzy Phillips, and brothers, Roger, Sherman, Ritchie, Darrell and Neil.
Dennis was born November 11, 1985, and at a young age moved from Little Grand Rapids to Manigotagan, then Hollow Water, where he lived for many years.
Dennis started his adult life as a naturally skilled and creative artist. He became interested in Ojibwe ceremonies and was proud of his spiritual name. He loved his dogs Bear and Prince. To further his education, he attended the local Adult Education Centre working diligently at improving his math and English skills. He appreciated both time with friends and time alone. He tried to become a better person physically, mentally, and spiritually.
However, his addiction gradually robbed him of his strength and enthusiasm for life until he could no longer fight back. He is at peace now.
Wake services will be at the Phillips residence in Hollow Water First Nation on Sunday, October 24 and Monday, October 25. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Phillips residence. Officiating by Reverend Norman Meade. Pallbearers: Ritch Kennedy, Delmar Favel, Morgan Cowley, Ryan Cook, Gabe Simard, Ian Bushie, Nathaniel Baptiste, Honorary Pallbearers: Uncle Dan, Sam Klippenstine, Laz Baptiste, nephews - Deacon, Nate and Rich.
The family would like to thank Dennis' long-time friend Sam Klippenstein for always being a compassionate and caring friend to him throughout his life.
