JUNE MARIE COTE
(SHAW)
June 17, 1937 - October 24, 2021
Forever remembered by her son Mark Cote (Tania La Mendola), and daughter Karen (Gary) Cooper; grandchildren: Nachelle (Stephen) Zwart, Macauley Cooper (Jay Retzlaff), Caroline, Nicholas, and Charles Cote; Sandra Sears; and great-granddaughter Lila Zwart. June was predeceased by her husband Armand, son Garth, and brother Allan Shaw; survived by sister-in-law Marjorie Shaw, the Shaw families of California, the Cote families of Alberta, the McCann cousins, her best friend Joan Finnegan; and Winnipeg friends, Sylvia Warrington, Eleanor Tabacki, Diane Baert, Marg Hisco, and Milli Furrer-Dalke of Switzerland.
June was truly an incredible person who brought joy to her family and friends. She was so proud of her family; being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother filled her heart with joy.
June was born in Swift Current, to Christina and Carlo Piscia (Charles Shaw). Coming from Scottish and Italian heritage, she was fascinated with family history and European roots. Her most memorable vacations included going with her father to his birthplace of Cadrazzate, Italy, and Macauley taking her to the Big Apple where her Dad immigrated at age 17, before settling in Saskatchewan.
In 1958 she graduated from nursing school in Moose Jaw, where she wed Armand Cote on October 3, 1959. They were married 49 years when Armand passed in 2009. She was an exceptional nurse with a successful 25-year career at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, retiring in 1995. June remained close with her nursing friends, cherishing a lifetime of friendships.
June called Winnipeg home for over 50 years until moving to Calgary in 2015 to be near family, where she made many friends at the Wedgewoods, who introduced happy hour in the park and provided laughter during book club chats.
June's circle of friends was extensive. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, the symphony, book clubs, and shopping - oh how she loved to shop.
Caring by nature, June was a beautiful soul.
Forever in our hearts,
our souls will never part!

I’m so sorry to have learned of June’s passing. My parents Doug and Sandra Trumble have so many fond memories of our families times together. Sandra and June could talk for hours and I was always thrilled to hear of any news. My hearts go out to all the family- as you will always miss and love your mother deeply. She was always so wonderful to all of us. Our parents shared so many happy times together over the years. I hope our paths will cross again someday Karen. June was an exemplary nurse. She was proud to be "from the old school" and instilled in her co-workers the gifts of caring, compassion, and sincere interest. Her warm sense of humor and listening ear kept her team members close to her. Her concern for the well-being of her staff was a natural trait. Thank you June. You and your gentle smile are dearly missed. - Posted by: Edith Mulhall (Friend and nursing colleague) on: Oct 31, 2021

My heartfelt sympathy to June’s family and many friends. I worked with her at the Vic and she taught me so much about being a nurse and being a compassionate, kind person. She will be missed by all who knew her. - Posted by: Susan Hopps (Former nursing colleague ) on: Oct 30, 2021
