ISAAC, Menno (October 15, 1936 to September 29, 2021). Menno's last day with us was on September 29 when he died peacefully of heart failure with family by his side. He was much loved by his wife Evelyn, sons Gerry, Tim, Jeff and Jon, their partners Ann, Nina, Gloria and Monica as well as ten beloved grandchildren.
Menno was the last remaining sibling of his birth family of six children. He will also be missed by his five remaining sisters-in-law and his many nephews and nieces.
Teaching was Menno's career of choice. For ten years he taught in a variety of schools, from one room rural to a large Winnipeg school. Then in 1966 Menno found a perfect fit, Neelin High School in Brandon. He appreciated the friendly atmosphere and felt he could contribute positively to the lives of the many students in his classes. He was part of the Neelin staff for 26 years until he retired in 1992, and Neelin always remained close to his heart.
On retirement, Menno expanded on what began as a hobby - market gardening and developing the 1st community shared agriculture program in Western Manitoba. He grew organic vegetables for over 30 families for 13 years and became known for his flavorful tomatoes at the Brandon Farmers market as well.
Traveling was another of Menno's many interests. Adventures in Mexico, Europe and New Zealand were highlights but the many trips to either the east or west coast (often with kids and camper in tow) are memorable for his whole family.
Involvement in the community and church was important to Menno. He served as a board member in organizations such as Camp Koinonia, Youth for Christ, Habitat for Humanity and Westoba Credit union. He represented Neelin at the Manitoba Teachers Society and organized and supervised the curling teams at Neelin. He was involved with Brandon Community Builders, and was treasurer of the Church group Jubilee of which he was an active member.
Most important to Menno, always, was his family and his faith in God. He was a loving, generous, involved husband, father and grandfather.
Our hearts are heavy as we adjust to life without Menno. Our memories, experiences and stories sustain us. We were blessed to love him and to be loved by him. He will be part of us forever.
A burial service has taken place at the Brandon Cemetery. We have prepared a celebration of life for Menno which will be held on November 13, at 2:00 pm at "The Backyard on Aberdeen" located at 1624 13th Street, in Brandon. In accordance with provincial health regulations proof of vaccination will be required.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Wow such shock to hear this. My condolences to everyone. Mr. Issac was one of the most soft spoken person I meet at Neelin and thru life. He was a great listener. I remember 92 when he retired and he was very sad. He was very compassionate about teaching more than most teachers. - Posted by: Timmy ho (Student ) on: Nov 12, 2021
