YVAN CLAUDE ROCAN
March 13, 1951 – September 8, 2021

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we share the sudden passing of Yvan Rocan, age 70. He passed away on September 8, 2021, in Calgary, AB. He was a loved little brother, beloved cousin, witty uncle, and a trusted and loyal friend to many.
Yvan joins his mom and dad, Yves and Therese Rocan (Madec) and his brother Roger in Heaven. He leaves to mourn his two sisters, Doreen Lyle (Larry) and Anita Perron (Ron), numerous nieces and nephews, and friends across our country.
Yvan was born and raised in Somerset, MB. He graduated high school in St. Jean Baptiste, MB and continued his education at College St. Boniface where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.
Yvan had a lengthy career as an in-charge flight attendant with Air Canada. Oh the stories he would tell you about the years with Air Canada and the many people he met on this journey. Once retired, he loved his time golfing with friends and the time well spent with family in Mexico. Yvan also made many friends in his on-line gaming games community.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Yvan. He loved an evening with friends playing pool and a dark ale in hand. He was a whiz at Crossword puzzles just like his dad. He kept people rolling in laughter because he could find humour in the most mundane life circumstances.
He would make some of the silliest jokes that forced you to laugh or smile even when you were going through some of the toughest times.
Yvan also loved socializing with people. He was such a selfless man who touched so many lives. He was very attentive and would listen to everyone's problems and offer solutions to them. Fortunately, he was remarkably intelligent and filled with wisdom, so his family, colleagues and friends could always count on him.
Yvan's love of life didn't come to an end with his death. His memory will live forever in all the stories we will continue to share. Yvan was the most gentle, loving, affectionate, funny, amazing man - and he will be missed immensely.
The service for his Celebration of Life will be held in Winnipeg on November 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., by invitation only. There will be a link for live stream in order to allow everyone to participate in honouring the life of this special man.

  • Deepest sympathy for the loss of your brother.. - Posted by: Marielle Rigaux (Distant cousin) on: Nov 13, 2021

  • My heartfelt condolences to Yvan's sisters, Doreen and Anita, their family and friends. I was a crew scheduler with Air Canada in Calgary and knew Yvan for many years. He was a lovely man, friendly, capable and always came in to work well prepared for his flights. He was calm and dependable and I don't remember ever seeing him out of sorts. He was a gentleman. We had just been catching up with each other at a flight attendant reunion in August and shared some wonderful memories and laughs. We figured we'd be seeing one another again before long. The news of his passing was so unexpected. I am very sorry for your loss. Cherish your memories as I will cherish mine. Rest in peace, dear Yvan. - Posted by: Judie Laird (Air Canada Friend) on: Nov 10, 2021

  • We shared many stories and much laughter with Roc while playing our silly war game online. He was a team mate with a heart of gold who we all knew we could count on for whatever was needed. From sharing knowledge to supporting an incoming attack or sharing a concern or funny story or warm hearted memory, everyone knew we could depend on Roc! We fly black flags in his honor and send prayers to all his family! God bless and keep you - Posted by: QueenNunYa (online gaming team mate) on: Nov 09, 2021

  • I worked with Yvan for many years at the Calgary base. I always smiled when I saw his name on the crew list and when I flew with him we would laugh for hours. Always good for an entertaining story or an encouraging word he always left me feeling better for having flown with him. He was a gentleman and a kind soul. When we retired we would meet for "pizza lunches". Yvan will be sorely missed. But when we can safely meet again for lunches Yvan will take his spot at the table even though his chair may be empty. • I remember Yvan very well. I went to school with his older brother Roger, but always knew who his brother, Yvan was. My deepest condolences to Doreen and Anita. Losing a sibling is a difficult part of life. I’m sure you both have a lot of wonderful memories of your little brother and those will help you get through this difficult time. RIP Yvan! • Sincere sympathy Doreen and Anita and families. With distance from each other we did not see Yvan much but the times we did see him we always had a good time. RIP Yvan - Posted by: Suzanne Labossiere (Cousin) on: Nov 02, 2021
