It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Philip Neil Bauernhuber after a short battle with cancer. On Saturday, October 30, 2021, Philip passed with his family by his side at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli.
Philip was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and loving husband of Susan Bauernhuber.
Philip is survived by his loving wife Susan, his three stepchildren, Lark (David), Tanis (Monty), and Cory (Candace); his grandchildren, Chac, Sandino, Caleb, Kolby, Hailey, Raya and Wyatt; his parents, Joseph and Vigdis Bauernhuber; his brother Bruce Bauernhuber; Uncle Karl (Kristine) Bauernhuber; his Aunts, Frances Sigurdson and Borga Jakobson, and their families, as well as his loving dog Tanner.
He is now at peace with his sister Ingrid Bauernhuber, Uncle Oli Sigurdson (Bennie), and his Uncles, Sveinn Sigurdson, and Bjarki Jakobson, as well as cousin Gestur Jakobson.
Phil was born and raised in Geyser on the family farm. He worked at Arborg/Noventis Credit Union for 40 years and made many friends during this time. Phil loved working in the yard and on the garden. You could also find him on the golf course in the summer or in the curling rinks during the winter months.
Phil was very passionate about his community and volunteered on many committees. He was very proud of his family and was considered their rock to lean on. He treasured his friendships and was always there if anyone needed him.
Donations can be made in his memory to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the paramedics, nursing staff and doctors for his care.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

  • Our heartfelt and sincerest condolences to Phil's family. Phil's infectious laugh, wit and sense of humor were true gifts he extended to us all. He always made one feel welcome and gave his full attention to those in his presence. I occasionally would notice a mischievous twinkle in his eye when he awaited a reaction to a humorous observation or comment he would make. The world was a better place with him in it. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Ray and Sandra Styranka - Posted by: Ray and Sandra Styranka (Friends) on: Nov 10, 2021

  • Phil was definitely a person of strength and compassion. I most remember Philip for his love and care for my widowed mother, Frances Sigurdson. After Sveinn passed mom needed help at times, especially when she needed to give up the farm and move into Arborg. Us daughters were mostly far away and it wasn’t easy for us to be there for mom at this time, but dear Philip and Susan were both there for mom and helped her immensely! I remember mom saying Philip was just like having a son to her, she was soooo thankful. Philip made such a difference in the community of Arborg and personally to my mother. I know it won’t be the same without him! - Posted by: Holly Mitchell (Cousin) on: Nov 06, 2021

  • Please accept my sincere condolence in the passing of Phillip. My connection with Phillip was through the mutual affiliation with our careers in the credit union system. We always connected when attending provincial meetings and shared common interests. All the best as you mourn his passing. God bless!! - Posted by: Hank Hildebrand (Acquaintance) on: Nov 06, 2021
