GEORGE CELS
Born near Kamsack, SK and raised in Regina, he remained close to his surviving siblings, Joe, Phil, and Cathy (Basarsky). He will be mourned by his loving stepchildren: Chris Augey (Kathy), Kim Augey (Linda), Michelle Mayotte (Stew), Marc Cels (Indre Cuplinskas), eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
His faith in God and the love of Aline empowered George to make many new starts: in Colorado, Red Deer, Kelowna, Calgary, Winnipeg, Thompson, and finally Drumheller. Wherever life took George, he loved having fun and working with people: his siblings and cousins, fellow students, teammates, colleagues at the Catholic Archdiocese of Regina, staff of his restaurant and of Princess Auto, parishioners, and neighbours. George set his hands to many DIY projects and crafts, from welding and masonry to painting and carving. George always made music: in churches and community choirs and at family singalongs, even on his deathbed. Above all, George was a big soul, willing to share a good laugh or a tear.
The family is grateful for the care George received from the staff at the Sunshine Lodge, his physicians, and palliative care nurses. Please remember George and his family in your prayers.
In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the Sunshine Lodge Activities Fund with the Drumheller and District Seniors' Foundation: 696 - 6 Ave E., Drumheller, AB T0J 0YS.
The family hopes to live-stream the prayer vigil (November 12, 7:00 p.m.) and private funeral (November 13, 11:00 a.m.) from St. Anthony's Church, Drumheller: email cels.funeral@gmail.com in advance for the link. George's final resting place will be the cemetery at Forget, SK.

I worked for George & (Aline) in the late 70's when they ran "Big Scoop", I was just a teenager of 15yrs......George was so good to me, he was so kind & respectful. I worked very hard as a teen & he really appreciated my efforts. Due to some issues outside of work, there was a time I "ran away" from home & abandoned my job, I was gone for nearly a whole month......upon my return I went to Big Scoop to see George & pick up what I believed to be my last pay cheque....when he handed my cheque to me, he started walking across the kitchen staff area to the schedule explaining he had to hire a replacement but he would squeeze me in somewhere so I could start back part time to begin with.......I was stunned as I did not think I would have a job anymore......within 2 weeks I was back to my full time schedule.......I have NEVER forgotten him, I will be 60 soon & he remains very strongly in my soul & I still own, with pride, a plaque with a prayer of encouragement that he gifted to me when I eventually moved on to develop my own future........blessings to you Aline, you & George made a deep & positive effect on my life....never forgotten. - Posted by: Viv (He was my Boss) on: Jun 17, 2023

Thank you George for your dedication to the St Lawrence Church choir. You inspired me, Atalia, to sing with your knowledge and encouragement. Sincere condolences to Aline and Family. Atalia & Jim Hickey. - Posted by: Atalia & Jim Hickey (Friends) on: Nov 06, 2021
