March 31, 1949 - November 1, 2021

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Joao Manuel Botelho, at 72 years of age on November 1, 2021 at Health Sciences Centre.
Joao was predeceased by his parents, Joao and Maria Delfina Botelho, mother and father-in-law, Maria de Jesus and Altino Sousa, brothers-in-law, Joao Carlos Sousa and Carlos Costa, and goddaughter Paula Marques.
He leaves to mourn the love of his life for the last 51 years Maria Evelina, along with his three children, Rui (Lucilia), Nelson (Tanis), Marlene (Ross); grandchildren, Xavier, Amber, Thiago, Austin, Nevaeh, Landon, Savannah and Dylan; sister Maria Costa and her children, Irene (Javier, Malaika and Maesha), John, Michael (Melanie, Nathan, Kaitlynn, Jaden and Brooklynn), brother-in-law Dinarte Sousa (Elisabete), sister-in-law Conceicao Sousa of Sao Miguel, Acores, sister-in-law Cilena Sousa; godchildren Zelia and Ricardo of Sao Miguel, Sonia, Cheryl, Maria Evelina and Mark; and many other family and friends.
Joao Manuel was born on March 31, 1949 in Sao Miguel, Acores. He immigrated to Canada with his parents on his 18th birthday; the love of his life soon followed and they started their family. Dad was the most devoted husband, father and grandfather. Everything he did was for his precious wife and children. He was an amazing grandpa and had a special bond with each of his grandchildren; they are his greatest joy.
In his 34 years at Versatile Farm Equipment, then Buhler Versatile, he made many lasting friendships with all those he worked with. Joao had many friends and he was always there with a helping hand and a kind word.
Thank you to Dr. Kasper, Dr. Jacob, the nurses and other members of the medical team at Health Sciences Centre GA4 for the care they provided.

Dad, though are hearts are broken and a void left for always, we know that you are now at peace in the arms of our creator. We had plans but Gods plans were greater. We will love you forever and miss you always,
until we meet again.
Descanse em paz

Querido marido, pai e avo

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Our prayers for you and your family. John was always available to help and advise on the repair and maintenance of our house. And when we took long trips, John was always willing to look after our place. This was how our friendship grew. He was such a devoted and prayerful husband. We praise God for the chance to know and love you more than a neighbor but as our dear friend. - Posted by: Deacon Michael Cordova & Rochelle Cordova (Neighbor for 8 years ) on: Nov 21, 2021

  • John worked for me for over 30 years. He was a hard worker and reliable. He was a dedicated husband and father. Over the years we became very good friends. Sorry I wasn't able to attend the service. Rest in Peace my friend. Sincere condolences to all of John's family - Posted by: Albert & Betty Lannoo (co-worker & friend) on: Nov 10, 2021

  • My deepest condolences to the family. - Posted by: Sally Elvas (Old neighbor on Oakhurst.) on: Nov 08, 2021

  • John and I worked together for the 34 years he was there. We went to battle together many times to keep our Production lines running. We became close and spent alot of times talking about our families. He was so proud of his 2 sons and his little girl. He was admired by all he worked with. Nobody ever had a bad word to say about him. We have lost a loved friend and family man. - Posted by: Rick Arnaud (Friend and coworker) on: Nov 07, 2021

  • I'm very sad to hear of the loss of John, I met him when Maria was a patient of mine a few years ago, and I always admired his love and compassion for her, and what he did for her, to take care of her, not even tho he had some of his own health issues, he truly loved her and that's what kept him going. I will never forget either Maria or John. May he rest in paradise, he definitely earned his wings. Tammy - Posted by: Tammy (acquaintance) on: Nov 06, 2021

  • I worked with John for 15 years before he retired. I learnt many things from him, he was truly one of the best people I have had the pleasure to work with. He will be sadly missed by all.
