JOHN CHARLES (CHARLIE) JONES
September 20, 1944 - November 3, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father, grandfather and brother on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at the age 77.
Charlie was born on September 20, 1944 in Memramcook, NB. He was the son of Therese (nee LeBlanc) and John Jones and the oldest of six children. As a child his family moved frequently from military base to base which is the main reason he settled his wife and kids in St. Boniface, MB to create a close and lasting network of friends, family and great neighbours.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gail (nee Lounsbury), his children: daughter Charlene Kubin (Todd) and grandchildren, Julie, Jolene, Jackson and Jasmine; his son Blake Jones (Amy) and grandson Dylan. Special mention to sister-in-law Sheron Unfried, niece Heather and nephew Glen for their endless care and concern. Charlie is also survived by three siblings, Michael, Kenny and Susan (Bob Cain). Charlie will be missed by his lifelong friends, Ron and Brad Rayner, as well as many other friends and family he made throughout his busy lifetime.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Diane Reid and Richard. He is also predeceased by his beautiful granddaughter, Rachel Jones.
Charlie will be remembered for his relentless pursuit of aluminum "tabs" which he amassed by the boatload to purchase equipment for children with disabilities.
As a young man, Charlie joined the US Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He moved to Winnipeg in the early 1970s to follow his love of sports, specifically handball and softball. His family was very proud of his 2013 induction into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame.
As a father, Charlie loved watching his son play hockey and going to the Jets games. He loved listening to his daughter sing and following her bands around town. Charlie was an excellent handyman who was most comfortable in his plaid shirts and jeans, building, fixing and tinkering both for work, at home and at his cabin in Gimli.
The last few years of Charlie's life were challenging as he lived with dementia.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Meadowood United Church. Proof of vaccination is required to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his granddaughter Rachel's name can be made to the Stollery Children's Hospital https://www.stollerykids.com/ways-to-give/donation-options/tribute-in-honour-or-in-memory
