SYBIL FINNSON
Sybil Joyce was born May 4, 1940 in the RM of Morton, Manitoba to William and Mary Ann (Arthur) Smith. Sybil is predeceased by her three older brothers, William (Bill), Charles and Norman. Sybil lived her life with strength, courage and independence, starting from the time she moved to Boissevain to work as a cashier in the Co-op and then to Winnipeg to further her education. Sybil met her late husband Donald Finnson (1940 to 1968) and married in 1960. They had two children, Wayne Bradley and Daryl Wynne.
Sybil could always be relied upon to get Wayne and Daryl and their teammates to the various activities that they were involved in. She stayed up many a night finishing off sewing a competition outfit. It was surprising how many hockey players and gear she could fit into her car! Her support of her children was never waning and she was always there for them, no matter what.
Sybil took on many challenges professionally and her achievements, while working at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, are testament to her courage to continue to reach higher. Sybil retired from her work life as a Manager in the Materiel Management department after over 30 years working at Health Sciences Centre.
As her children branched out, Sybil met her second love, Ray Peebles. Sybil then had a constant loving, companion to share her adventures. Although retired, Sybil never slowed down. Together with Ray, she travelled from one end of Canada to the other and made forays to the US as well. She kept active with a variety of dance clubs and volunteering commitments. Sybil seemed to pick up new hobbies and interests every year. Her many talents include playing the piano, painting, sewing, writing (fiction and meeting minutes). Some of her personal accomplishments in her retirement include participating in the Seniors' Games and becoming a published author. Sybil always took an active role in every organization she became involved in.
Sybil had a special skill for connecting and keeping up relationships with the people she has met over the years. Her vast Christmas card exchange includes people she had met on journeys many years ago. She always took the time to write a personal note to everyone.
In lieu of flowers, Sybil has requested that memorials be made to the Gordon Howard Centre or Palliative Care Unit at Selkirk Hospital c/o IERHA at Selkirk Regional Health Centre.

I have many fond memories of Sybil. One such memory is of her patience, kindness & understanding when trying to teach me piano. That memory has stayed with me my entire life and I always vowed to try to be kind and patient with others as she was. RIP Sybil - Posted by: Caroline (Friends) on: Feb 22, 2025
