SACHIKO (SACHI) GUILBERT
(nee MIZOBUCHI-INOUYE)
June 28, 1938 - November 15, 2021
Predeceased by father David Kiyoshi Mizobuchi; mother Sadako (Inouye) Mizobuchi; and brother John Jun Mizobuchi (Minori).
Those left behind to ponder the mystery include: husband Norm; daughters, Naomi (Hiroshi Koshiyama) and Kimi (Steve Lawrie); grandchildren, Tomi and Remi Lawrie and Josie Smith-Weir (daughter of Megan and Jen); nephews Robert, Norman (Leila Wright) and Andrew Mizobuchi; grand-nieces, Rebecca and Allison Mizobuchi-Wright; best friend Jeannine (Dumont) Christopherson; the Borys Family, (Gladys, Greg, Sheila, Kelsey and Taryn); fine neighbours and many acquaintances.
We will remember you - your fondness for food, travel and tai chi, your Nordic walking poles, your generosity, fierceness and passionate denouncement of prejudice and discrimination, your (sometimes) reluctance to forgive or apologize (you had your reasons), your appreciation for honest, plain speaking, your laugh, your hospitality and your deep, deep love for your family. We are grateful for your 83 years on this sometimes turbulent earth and for your presence in our lives. May we live in your absence in ways that would make you continue to want to claim us.
Thank-you to all the health care practitioners over the years who enabled Sachi to live an active and joy filled life.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the University of Winnipeg's Model School Program.
Cremation and private funeral have taken place. A memorial service and interment will be held on or around July 13, 2022. Details to be announced.

I’m so sorry to have heard only just now of your loss. My mother spoke often and fondly of Sachi, and treasured her friendship even though they no longer saw one another. My mother also passed on this December, and I like to think they are in heaven together, singing and laughing as they did when they were girls. - Posted by: Mary Mazur (My mother Louise (Stadelmeir) Mazur was a close childhood friend) on: Mar 12, 2023

Sending condolences to you Norm and all your family as you grieve your loss. I I feel sad hearing the news of Sachi's death and know the sadness you as a family experience at this time. I feel glad knowing how fortunate I have been to have met Sachi all those years ago. It was always a happy time when we met by chance to sit and have a coffee or to listen to the drummers in Old Market Square. I always felt special to be greeted with a bright smile and a warm hug and ,of course, the wish to see each other again . The obituary tribute to her legacy is evidence that there will be many memories to revisit and share over the coming days and weeks ahead. They will be a comfort to you all over many years. Thinking of you in sympathy at this difficult time. Shirley Augustine. - Posted by: Shirley Augustine (friend and colleague of Norm) on: Nov 20, 2021

Norm, Naomi and Kimi and family, so shocked and sad to hear of Sachi’s passing. I have great memories of fabulous meals at your place, she cooked the biggest turkeys I’ve ever seen and had many honest and educational conversations with Sachi. I know you and all that knew her will miss her dearly. You’re in my thoughts. Take care - Posted by: Melainie Stewart (Friend) on: Nov 20, 2021
