RONALD WAYNE (BUZZ) BARON
July 18, 1948 - November 17, 2021
Ron will be dearly missed by his sisters, Ollie and Gloria (Gerry); sister-in-law Barb; nieces and nephews, Ryan, Laura, Rick, Marilyn and Lori; great-nephews, Michael, Daniel and Kenny, as well as many cherished friends.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, John and Anne; brother Walter; brother-in-law Richard; and nephew Kevin.
Ron grew up on the family farm in Carlowrie, Manitoba. In the 1960s, he moved to Winnipeg where he would reside for the rest of his life. In 1972 Ron, by then a self-taught amateur mobile DJ, started Buzz's Music Service, which quicky grew in popularity and success. In 1980, he acquired Pro Sound. 1985 saw the merger with Partie Sound and culminated in the acquisition of Crystal Sound in 1989. Ron remained with Crystal Sound for over 30 years, playing an integral role in the company's development and operations.
Ron was a true gentleman, meticulous and full of optimism. A thoughtful and considerate man, he was well known to put others before himself. Children especially adored him, and no family get together would be complete without questions of whether Uncle Buzz would be there. He was always there to brighten the lives of others.
Besides his DJ and business talents, Ron was also known as the "football pools guru" and founder of the famous St. Malo Lawn Darts Tournament. He also enjoyed travelling, especially if it meant getting together with family and friends.
A celebration of Ron's life will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg with Marianne Propp as officiant. In compliance with current public health orders, proof of vaccination and photo ID will be required for all attendees.

I first met Ron in the very late 70s when he operated PRO Sound, the aftermath of Buzz's Music Services. At the time I was the sole owner and general manager of 2 sister businesses - Partie Sound Music Services and Bolt Sound & Lighting Company. Buzz was a customer of Bolt Sound & Lighting regarding equipment needs for his Dee Jay business. Ron and I developed a strong and trusted business relationship which quickly evolved into a friendship. That relationship eventually resulted in the merger of PRO Sound Music Services with Bolt Sound & Lighting and Partie Sound Music Services. Ron and I became equal operating partners and each of us took on management responsibilities, Ron for the DJ and music services division, and me for the equipment sales and rentals division. We worked together for nearly 10 years on a day to day basis sharing ideas that complimented the growth of of both divisions and covering for one another as all good business partners do. Ron had exceptional business and people skills and that contributed immensely to the growth of our business and acquisition and retention of quality employees including dee jays Working together our business flourished during the glory years of the dee jay, night club and disco eras. I am not sure my business would have grown and been as successful as it it without Ron as my partner. Nothing lasts forever however, and in late 1990, a couple of years after our acquisition of Crystal Sound Music Services, at a time when both Ron and I, both still reasonably young men in our early 40s, were looking for new challenges, a mutual agreement was made for Ron to buy me out and take over 100% control of our little empire and for me to move on to the next phase of my business career which ended up being that of a financial advisor, a position and career which I am still actively involved in btw. Under Ron's guidance further changes to the operating structure and ownership of Partie Sound, Crystal Sound, and Bolt Sound and Lighting occurred in the years following and Ron stayed with the company thru all of those because of his love for the business and the challenges that presented themselves moving forward. I hadn't seen or spoken with Ron for numerous years as our paths had gone in different directions as often is the case in life totally unplanned. In the late summer of 2019 Ron called me however and we caught up so to speak over the phone, agreeing to talk again soon and arrange a lunch together as we used to do regularly when we worked together. I was busy, Ron was busy, the pre Christmas business rush for both of us came along, and in January of 2020 I went away with my wife on what had become an annual 2 month working vacation for me in Mexico. Upon my return in mid March of 2020 COVID had taken over everywhere and no one was seeing anyone on a face to face basis either socially or for business purposes unless absolutely necessary. This COVID caused lifestyle has persisted to this day for most of us. As a result Ron and I never had our lunch and unfortunately never spoke again. I was shocked and saddened when I read of Ron's recent passing. Time goes by quickly and life does as well. I look back favorably on my relationship and times spent with Ron, may he rest in peace. My sincere condolences go out to his surviving family members and many lifelong friends. - Posted by: David Johnson (former business partner ) on: Nov 29, 2021

Ron and I go back many years to the Partie Sound era he gave a lot of todays more advanced DJs their first break. We butted heads a few times but always had a mutual respect, He was a stand up guy and pretty easy going. I still remember he and his GF at the time driving all the not so sober folks home from many of the events at Christmas time with operation Red Nose. Anyone who knew Ron knows what I'm talking about when I say he was a pioneer in the industry and will be missed by many of us. My condolences go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Tim Edwards (Friend) on: Nov 23, 2021
