JAMES DANIEL HERKERT

Jamie passed away on November 3, 2021, surrounded by the love of family, following an accidental drug overdose. He was 38 years old.
Left to mourn his passing are parents Paul and Carol, sister Tara-Lea, nephews Ashton, Julian and Keiran, along with aunts and cousins, among other extended family.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Jamie sought work in Fort McMurray as a young adult. He spent the rest of his life in Alberta, largely out of touch with family who had tried to help him during his troubled youth. He benefited from the kindness of Edmontonians over the years as he struggled with addiction and its associated repercussions.
The family wishes to thank the ICU staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton for treating Jamie with kindness and dignity during his final days.

Jamie had a special gift of being able to connect with the underdog, the less fortunate, the less privileged, be it people or animals. Even amidst his own challenges he never stopped reaching out to help those in need. Jamie loved and was committed to the well-being of all animals - always helping them in any way he could. Jamie cherished his precious little daughter, Jordan Ann, who was the love of his life, his pride and joy. When Jamie left us, he took with him a piece of all his family's hearts, and an especially big piece of his sisters.
In memory of Jamie - When you encounter a person or animal in need, please do not look the other way. Instead, open your hearts to them.
