STANLEY: Our beloved Joyce Irene Stanley (nee Wicks) passed away suddenly at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the age of 91. Joyce was born November 10, 1929 in Oakner, Manitoba. She spent her school years in Oakner, Harding and Kenton. She moved to Brandon in 1944 and worked as domestic help at the Brandon Mental Hospital, and later at Iles Hardware and Thompson's Groceteria. On August 6, 1951 Joyce married Gerald Stanley and together they owned and operated College Grocery from 1963 to 1971. She then went on to work at KMart until she retired February 24, 1988. Joyce loved travelling, spending time at her cabin at Otter Lake, playing card games with her grandchildren, walking with her sister-in- law Evelyn, and spending time basking in the joys of having her family around her. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Ada and George Wicks, her sister Hazel Roberts, and great-granddaughter Erin Fehr. She is survived by her sons Doug (June), Don and Wayne (Sharon); grandchildren David (Larissa), Jehn (Curtis), Kaila (Ryan), Kortney (Dan), Kelsey (Ian), Katie (Ryley), Kyleigh, Kamryn, Keaton, Jessie (John), Callie, and Shayne; she was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren. Everyone who knew Joyce knew that she was an extremely kind, loving, gentle and peaceful person, and that she loved her family very much. She will forever be in their hearts and missed everyday. Although her stay at Dinsdale Personal Care Home was short, the family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made her stay very special, especially Chaplain Tunji Olasunkanmi. A private family graveside service was held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Joyce may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 185 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7.
