WILLIAM (BILL) CHRUSTIE

Peacefully on November 21, 2021, Bill passed away at 95 years of age at Concordia Place.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marguerite; daughter, Carolyn Kwiatek (Stan); son, Calvin Chrustie (Kristy and Gabe); sisters-in-law, Ann, Connie, and Shirley Holyk; brother-in-law, Delbert Reid (Louise), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Frances; brothers, John (Doreen), Russell, Paul, Walter (Olga), and Martin; sisters, Elsie (Walter) and Stella, as well as Marguerite's brother, Walter (Asa), and brother-in-law Paul.
Bill grew up in Alonsa, Manitoba. He taught school in Alonsa, York Factory, Swan River and Winnipeg. The last portion of his career was spent teaching school at Miles MacDonell Collegiate for 23 years. He was passionate about education. He loved helping students and relatives in their pursuit of education. Many kept in touch with him. He loved to read and visit with people. Relationships were important to him and he enjoyed having many quality friends.
Bill was a real adventurer and outdoorsman. He loved to travel and had a real zest for life. He loved fishing and picking blueberries and was quick to share what he had. He valued his friendships with colleagues and neighbours and could be relied upon to lend a helping hand, or to search his garage or shed at the lake, should you need a spare part or tool. He will be remembered for his positive attitude, compassion, loyalty, integrity, determination, worldliness and respect for others. He was a loving husband and father and we are lucky for the time we had with him. We will miss him forever!
We found the following quote in one of Bill's books and he lived by this. "The idea is to die young as late as possible."
Flowers are gratefully declined and instead, should people wish, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
There will be no service at his request.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Concordia Place for their care and the compassion shown to Bill, Marguerite and our family. We would like to thank Dr. Saunders, Dr. Chernish and Dr. Yan for their help during Bill's journey. Thank you to all the many friends and family that have shown support throughout the years to Marguerite, Carolyn and Calvin. It has meant a lot to us.
A special thank you to all the health care workers that continue to help the elderly and those that are unwell!

"We'll know no greater treasure
than the time we had with you."

  • I am so sorry to hear of uncle Bill’s passing. My condolences to Marguerite and her family. I was so lucky to see him before the pandemic. I Asked uncle Bill many questions of the past and now all language of my ancestors is echoing in my heart. It saddens me to know that most are gone and will fondly be remembered. I’am not sure if I read it right, but was uncle Bill also a writer? I am also a writer. I have so many memories of my uncles. The one that will always live inside me, is the kinship they shared while playing cards, and eating amazing food, spread across the table. All our love to you all in this difficult time. xoxo Brenda and family) Barbara and family) Beverly and family) I will leave you with a poem that I have written: ❤️🙏🏻 No matter the distance I feel your presence close to my heart. - Posted by: Brenda Christie (Niece ) on: Nov 30, 2021

  • Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of this true gentleman, Bill Chrustie. I had the honour and privilege of meeting Bill on a few occasions and each time was a memorable one. One specific time was having Bill as a line mate playing a pick up game of ball hockey in Vancouver against his son Cal. Bill stole the show as the goalie and when his son Cal took a slap slot from close in, Bill stopped it with his head which saved the game and sparked a lively interaction as we took exception to Cal’s overly ambitious attempt to score on his Dad. Too funny. An exceptional kind hearted man who will be missed! - Posted by: Leigh Ryan (Friend ) on: Nov 27, 2021
