CELINE ANNA HOUDE
1931 - 2021
She was predeceased by her father Henri (1950), mother Aldéa (1984), brothers, Roland and Alfred Houde, sister Gisèle Schoofs and her stepdad Henri St. Germain. She will be deeply missed by her siblings: Pauline Bouchard, Fleurette Zastre-Tetreault (Earl), Monique Allard (Henri), Emile (Terry) and Julien Houde, many nieces and nephews whom she deeply cherished and the members of 'Groupe Monde et Espérance'.
The eldest of nine children, Celine journeyed from a little red schoolhouse in Benard, MB, to school in Elie, to l'Academie and College St. Joseph, to the Universities of Manitoba, Montreal and McGill where she obtained a Masters in Education.
Early in life, she was attentive to the Lord's will. In her desire to respond faithfully to His call to service, in 1958 she became a member of a Secular Institute 'Groupe Monde et Espérance' to consecrate her whole life to spreading hope, both at work and in daily living. This spirit of service permeated her career in education in Manitoba and in Quebec: in the classroom, in administration and as catechetical coordinator.
The underprivileged always had a special place in her heart. She welcomed two Laotian families into her home. Celine still found the time to sit on the boards of various organizations that were in tune with her fundamental values of faith, justice and culture. In 1997 she was one of the recipients of the Caritas Award.
Celine always enjoyed meeting people, listening to music, swimming, reading and travelling. She had the opportunity of travelling across Canada, parts of the U.S., Yukon, Alaska, Europe, Israel, the Orient, Haiti and Brazil.
Celine was never too busy to listen, to care and to offer her help. Her life is a true testimony of her love for her family, her friends and the underprivileged.
Merci Celine!
In lieu of flowers, Celine would say: "If you so wish, make a donation to a charity of your choice, help someone in need and always be kind."
A Funeral Mass will be held at Sts-Martyrs-Canadiens Church, 289 Dussault Avenue on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. In keeping with current health regulations, social distancing protocol, mandatory masks and proof of double vaccination is required.
Celine will be laid to rest at a later date in Elie, MB.

Chèrs Fleurette et Earl, We were saddened to hear of the passing of your dear sister Celine. She was such a kind, generous and loving lady. It was such a pleasure to know and work with her and the group welcoming the newcomers from Loas.. She always had a smile for everyone, and was beautiful inside and out. I know she has received that same welcome from our Creator, as she so radiated His love to others! God bless and comfort you as you celebrate her life so well lived. Words can never describe Celine’s personality and ethics. She could be sweet, thoughtful and kind… but also tenacious and tough when needed. She could Always be counted on, when needed, no matter the time of day or night. Horrible Winnipeg weather would never be a barrier to hold her back if she had promised to ‘be there’ for whatever commitment she made. She was the rock of her family. I could never have managed my commitment of caregiver for my grandfather, Henri (her Stepfather), were it not for the loving dedication of Celine to assist me in any way for him. He loved her dearly for that. She possessed a wonderful laugh and loved a good joke. Celine, you’ve done so much for so many throughout the decades… rest well. Condolences to her siblings. - Posted by: Angie (nee Fleury) (Friend) on: Nov 27, 2021

To the family and friends of Céline Houde, My mother, Euphrasie Le Sann Clement, grew up in Elie, Manitoba and had a lifelong friendship with Céline Houde. Whenever Céline was traveling to Montreal, she would come for a visit. There was lots of chatting and laughter. My mother passed away on March 17, 2021. I am sure that she and Céline are happy to meet to again in a celestial paradise. Je vous transmet mes plus sincères condoléances.
