EDITH ELIZABETH SCHROEDTER
Edith is survived by her husband Walter, daughter Cara (Braeden), mother Olga, and brother Eric.
Edith had a love of teaching, travelling, reading, and thrifting. She also loved journaling, a lifelong habit that she started when she was about 14. In later years, she enthusiastically embraced jigsaw puzzling and gardening.
Edith cherished her relationship to God. She loved the Lord and remained devoted to her faith throughout her life and to the end.
In 2020, Edith was diagnosed with breast cancer. After several months of remission, the cancer unexpectedly returned in the fall of 2021. After a valiant and courageous battle Edith succumbed to the cancer, with her daughter Cara and husband Walter at her side.
Many thanks to the health care practitioners who lent their expertise. Thank you to the Cancer Assistance Program for their generous and willing help. We also thank God for sustaining Edith in this battle.

Dear Mr. Schroedter and Cara, my deepest condolences on the passing of your beloved wife and mother. I was shocked to read this in the Winnipeg Free Press yesterday and saddened that I had lost touch with Miss Edith so long ago. She was an integral part of my teenage years when she was my English/German teacher at MBCI in Winnipeg. I was very close to her during that time and she got me through some of the darkest moments of my life back then. The last time I heard from her was a few months after Cara was born and she had mailed me a photo of her beautiful baby girl (and you were a darling little baby, Cara!). I still have that photo somewhere in my albums. I was living in Vancouver, BC at the time, and I guess both of us were busy, with her having a newborn and me with my work and we slowly stopped writing. I have thought of her often over the years and even looked for her on facebook several times, hoping to find her so we could reconnect. I'm sorry we never did. Miss Edith will always have a special place in my heart and I will never forget the kindness she showed me during my difficulties at MBCI. I gave her a book once back in the late 80's called Wings of Silver. I often wondered if she kept it as it was special to both of us. It had many wise sayings inside and I know it meant a lot to her at that time. I have so many fond memories of her and the things she taught me. If it wasn't for her, I don't believe I would be here today. Her words of encouragement and unconditional friendship gave me a reason to carry on in those dark days of my youth. May she rest in peace with Jesus and watch over both of you as your guardian angel until you reunite in Heaven some day. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. God bless you and comfort you as only He can during this difficult time. Sending big hugs your way! - Posted by: Karen Dueck (Former student) on: Dec 04, 2021
